Dutch or Grape hyacinth bulbs?

Dayton, OH(Zone 5a)

Hi!

I've been brainstorming about a project I'll be doing in my volunteer work in my next presentation. After some great feedback from MarciaGeiger & Stellapathic, I've decided to try using either of these bulbs for a Mother's Day gift. Here's a link to what the context of this request is: http://davesgarden.com/t/371769/

I was just curious if anyone knew of a resource that would have these available now to order? Or, does anyone have any extra bulbs they would be willing to trade?

Thanks in advance for any leads!!

Morph these bulbs would have been available back in August or September. It is unlikely you will find any now.

You might try BLEEK - I know he had some things left over from the co-op he did.

Oklahoma City, OK(Zone 7a)

I might have some muscari (grape hyacinth) bulbs leftover. I'll see if they are in good enough shape to send to you.

How many do you think you need?

I also may have some dwarf irises. Interested in those?

Dayton, OH(Zone 5a)

Ah, thanks guys!

Smiln, I have 25 kids that I would like to do this with for Mother's day (I know that's a lot). The Grape Hyacinth was recommended since it would probably bloom in time for Mother's day. If the dwarf irises would bloom in time, too, I think they'd be wonderful, too!

Is there anything special on your wish list these days?

Oklahoma City, OK(Zone 7a)

Let me see what I have...I can't be sure of anything anymore...my mind seems to be evaporating.

Dayton, OH(Zone 5a)

LOL ~ mine, too, and much faster than it should be! I tell my family that I wish I could run a defrag on my brain like on the computer. Then, everything would be more organized & I could hopefully have room to remember more stuff.

Thanks for checking for me. I did email Bleek per Alyssum's suggestion, but haven't heard anything.

Oklahoma City, OK(Zone 7a)

I have daffodils and tulips for sure, if you want those. I think I must have planted the muscari. I thought I had more, but they haven't shown up yet if they're here. I can check Home Depot out tomorrow, if you like.

Dayton, OH(Zone 5a)

Oh no, please don't do that! I'd rather just plant annuals or something... This was just a lark hope/request...

I may end up doing an assortment, though. So, I may take you up on the daffodis & tulips? I'm still checking around :)

Thanks!!!

lagrange, GA(Zone 7a)

Morph, I think my grape hyacinth have already quit blooming by Mothers Day. I can't remember for sure but maybe some one else might know. ??? Can't remember for sure. Jim

Georgia, we are not in the same zone, but muscari (grape hyacinths) begin with the crocuses... mebbe a few days later than crocuses, continue thru daffodil time and are then finished till the next year.

Thanks for the lead on Wally-World, Lavanda. I'll try them now :)

Dayton, OH(Zone 5a)

Okay, does wallyworld have a web site? I searched but I just find threads talking about wally world ~ not their web site :(

Here's the link to their garden page...but clearance items might not be listed here.

Smilin is right. Methinks you need to call the one closest to you and ask.

lagrange, GA(Zone 7a)

Lavanda,I knew that they sprouted right after the crocus. Even the daffs are gone here by Mother's Day. However thanks for the info. I gave my granddaughter, now 8, a pot of the grape hyacinth several years ago and she loved them. Jim

Thanks, Smiln :) Wal-Mart is wally world? I never heard that before... Is that a nick name for my favorite place to shop?

Mcallen, TX(Zone 8a)

Morph, yes, 'tis.

Dayton, OH(Zone 5a)

I always seem to learn something new here every day ~ thx :) Guess I'd of found the site a lot faster knowing that ~ lol...

Moretz, you're a doll! With me not being very educated about bulbs, I'm beginning to get worried about when/how to plant in the pots so they'd bloom on time.

Before saying yes to your most generous offer, I was wondering if y'all thought I'd be better to plant an annual or perennial seed. I'd have a little more control over the bloom time, I think. What do you think?

Maybe I jumped before looking on this one...

hickory, NC(Zone 7a)

Morph,
well they are here if you want them jlmk when or if you want them i will have them waiting for you

Thanks so much, Mortez. I am out of touch for a few days; going to be with my sick grandmother :( I'll be back, though.

My Crocus are starting to show already. I was in a K-Mart® recently and noticed they had left over Scilla Sibernica(Siberian Squill) and a few bags of other fall bulbs. I managed to get the Scilla for 10¢ a bag of 20.Being so old they were in bad shape, but I got 100 out of 13 bags that I have started already to try and re-hydrate and they are coming along fine. They are early bloomers, but I imagine if you have room to refrigerate your potted bulbs, you can slow down their progress quite a bit. Might be worthwhile to call around to local stores and ask if they have anything left over.

Thanks, vroomp! I've extra places to check, too, while out of town and further North where my chances might be better :)
