We had a nice 6 inches of snow. It is our first real snow fall of the season. The other day I realized how dry it was. We had a ewe that lambed out in the lot and the lambs were dry when I found them. Dh said the dirt/dust in the lot dried them off. When I came back in the house and took off my shoes, my socks were so dirty from the dust/dirt blowing up through them just from walking through the lot. DH went to bed very early last night because he is sick so I did the ewe check. The snow was so quiet and pretty. We've had 4 sets of twins born the last 2 days and one ewe that aborted a lamb. DH and I were commenting that so far, these ewes are just "popping them out". They don't seem to have any of the getting ready to lamb signs (off by themselves, pacing, bawling, etc.) And they don't seem to be bagging up until the last minute. Very strange!
DH ordered a new used front end for our tractor. He was going to pick it up today but will have to wait until roads are cleared up and he feels better. He has broken the front axle several times on our tractor. He realized that this tractor was not meant to pick up those big heavy round bales. He priced a few tractors at farm sales. He thought with the economy that they may be selling lower but they are still priced high.
Well I'd better go and get some stuff done - need to get some bills paid letters written before mailman comes.
You all have a good day and stay warm!
January 16 - it finally snowed!!!!!
