I am using this rickety system while I wait for Utah to fool me again with the eBeast. And this one is tricky in its own way.
For starters, it's ooooold! And it has Windows 95, which I probably don't remember enough about to use efficiently. Also, it has stuff set by a previous owner, unknown to me, which keeps popping up at inconvenient times. I can deal with the girlie stuff, most of the time, as I can usually just close it. But it has some utterly disconcerting habits I would like to break.
Frequently, when I am typing like now, it will just decide to close out my window, or windows, and throw up a Word page. It also does this sometimes when I leave it untended long enough to make a cup of coffee. And worst of all, it will eat my email. I hit save, but it won't save. I hit send, it swears to me the page can't be reached. I hit enter, it goes back to Yahoo. I finally got it to realize that I am the boss of my home page, but the next time it decided to shut itself down, it went back to Yahoo.
In a nutshell, how extensively do I need to redo this thing so I can live with it for a few weeks? With this slow modem, I don't want to spend hours cleaning it completely and reformatting. I am not even sure I can stand it long enough to do that, or that I will remember how. I have a 95 upgrade, and am wondering if I should try that, although it might be what is already on here. Again, slow modem limits me. And what settings are likely to need adjusting to stop the frequent upchucking of my work? I am not a patient person when it comes to these things, so I need it to run as well as possible to compensate for loading so slowly. Imagine, after typing all of this, it might decide not to let me post it. Urge to kill, friends, extreme liklihood of violence. Please help?
