we plan to add on a larger area with the windows we bought for now i am happy to get the panels on this part. dh built this in 1996 and we have covered it with plastic every year. finally we were able to get the panels for it. a dear uncle gave me a one man sail boat to sell so we could sell it for enough to get the panels.
this pic is day one of the project
first part of gh done
Wow,that was fast!
What kind of panels are those? He's doing a great job. I bet you'll love it!
Are there panels on top too? I just did my frame this past weekend, hoping to finish it up tommorow am taking off work early, but someone told me the panels on top will not hold the moisture as well something about the moisture freezing on plastic sheeting causes a layer of insulation to keep it warmer in the greenhouse, but the panels don't??
Katrina
yes there are panels on top too. they are pvc panels. i was told they would last much longer than the old fiberglass ones. the 12ft panels were 14 dollars each at lowes. 8ft ones are 10 dollars. hopefully we finish it in a little while.
Oh goodness you should have went to home depot. I just got mine there on saturday just passed and 12 ft were 11.98 and 8ft were 9.00!!!! I wonder if you bring your receipt if you can get credit??? Maybe its good we met ehhehe!!! Not sure if Lowes does price matching I know depot does. Well, we did the same thing wtih the pvc all around I just hope its not too hard to keep heated....
Katrina
actually when i got my panels i got lowes to beat home deopots price and take off an addtional 5%. i fgot 19 12ft panels for $240 and I had $250 off the boat so it paid for the gas to go get them.
WOW!!! I wish I woulda known that I woulda went there we spent $575.00 on panels we got 14-12' and 42-8' panels and it was somewhere around 575 with tax!!!
Katrina
home depot and lowes both will meet the competitors price plus an extra 10% off. i thpught it was 5% but dh said it was 10%. so on that 575 you could have saved 57.50. don't mean tomake you sick.lol. but hey a dollar is a dollar. you must have a huge gh. how big is it. mine will eventually be 12ft by 36 ft.
Well we built off of a boathouse, but that wasn't too big, that was only umm 18x10, and we turned it into 28x18 :) We are starting a nursery so I am sure that once we get going this will be expanded!!! :)
Katrina
a nursey would be great but i am not sure i could manage it with my health problems. i am hoping to sell some produce from the garden though and maybe a few plants during the spring and summer. since my sleep apnea is being treated i am feeling better so who knows maybe by spring i will be able to do more. doesn't hurt to dream.
I am glad you are doing better! I am doing a bulb co-op over in the co-op forum with some great prices on bulbs check it out! They are great to start in greenhouse too :)
Katrina
wow it looks great. i wanna see the inside too when you are done.
