What seeds are you going to grow this year?

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

I just bought a package of Tacca chantieri seeds, the Bat plant. This is a great leap for me - I have the patience of a gnat and the package says it might take 90 days to germinate.
I'm going to plant Ricinus carmencita seeds, they should go well with the cannas, some asarina, I like it in baskets, and the new Easter Egg plant seeds I got today from Crystal, THANK YOU very much Crystal. And of course a hundred brug seeds.
Has anyone else started with their seeds?

I've just started more brug seeds, nothing else yet. I should start some Ricinus seeds soon too to go in the tropical bed. Unfortunately the GH is packed to the rafters already. But I have a mini two tier GH I bought DH. Maybe I'll have to steal that too and put lights over it.

I just got my order from Dominion

Double petunias
Dracaena
Chelsea bellflower
Lisiantus

I am planting from my own seeds
100 or so canna
Castor bean
Datura( double purple and triple yellow)maybe even some white since they make such a nice border.
clematis
and many many more.....
I have just started and I am up to 12 trays.

Liz, so glad you got the seeds today!!!!
I actually had my Castors and Canna planted at the end of my garden and they looked great together. Castor beans got over 10 feet tall with almost trunks for stems.

Which cannas are you growing Crystal?

Just your plain Indian shot mostly, I get a kick out of starting them from seed. Having to use my dremel to nick them is kinda neat.
I do have King Humbert( think that is spelling right)
Tropicanna
Some unknown dark leafed ones, along with the odd mixed type started from seed that I traded for.
One is a banana leaf type..

Well, nothing really special... YET!!!! I really like them.
In my basement I have 5 banana boxes of tubers that I dug up in the fall and still I start more by seed. There is no help for me:)

We're all beyond help. LOL

Liz, if you wind up with extras I would really like a Tacca. I have always considered the T&M ad but just didn't. I wonder if there is something to scrounge up for you here?
I hope to have some neat sangs in the spring, some are setting out tiny side shoots (no Y though)(yellow/pink) and the rest are seedlings, they'll be awhile yet.

So I want to know too. Liz did you get the Bat plants to grow? Some of these old threads are fun to read. Wondering who some of these people were.

I have some daylily seeds coming, but so far everything else is still in a shopping cart at Parks. Have lots of seeds in the fridge to start. First the pansies in Dec. Have some interesting things that I didn't get around to starting last spring. Some came to late and some I just ran out of steam on.

can anybody tell me why both times I tried, I couldn't get my Castor bean seeds to germinate? My DH would love to grow these...any help would be appreciated...:)

I forgot about this one. Echoes, reading back it says I "bought" the seeds. It doesn't say that I actually got around to sowing them. In typical fashion, they are probably still in the seed box. Anyone want to try them?
I'm not much of a seed grower except for the brugs. I do sow castors every year though. What I do is soak them in water for 48 hours at room temperature then nick off a bit of the shell (I cut off the end) with nail clippers then plant in starter mix. Cover with saran and under lights. They come up in a couple of days sometimes. Fast growers so it's not necessary to start them too early.

Ahhhhh - I just stuck 'em in the ground and wondered why they never did anything - the instructions didn't mention any special soaking, or snipping - I'll try that this year, thanks.
- my DH loves plants with BIG leaves - tried to convince me that we needed a monster Gunnera in this tiny city back yard - you could park a Buick under the leaves of one of those when it matures!
