bare root plants

Brooklet, GA(Zone 8a)

i bought some blueberry bushes yesterday at lowes. they are packaged up bare root. we are having extremely cold temps for the nextr week. in the teens. should i just let them stay in there packaging or should i go ahead an put them in the ground or pot them in the greenhouse. not sure, so any hel;p is greatly appreciated

I would pot them up, and put them in the greenhouse.

I would pot them up too.

but dont really think they should be in the greenhouse as it might just force them a little bit.

keep the roots well watered to prevent them drying out

Orlando, FL(Zone 9b)

I would pot them up and put them somewhere they are a little protected from the cold. They might go into shock if you planted them outside now.

Blueberries survive the winter all the way into Canada (Zone 2). Of course they are planted or start from root or whatever in the warm spring, so have all summer to get ready to go dormate. I would hold them at near freezing and plant out when frost danger is over. Put them in an refrigerator, that works good.

Butterfly is right. somewhere like tight to one of the walls of your house so they get a touch of escaping warmth or stick them under a hedge.

I agree with Butterfly. I keep plants all through the winter close to my house in the shade and then plant them in the spring when I have the beds ready for them and it warms up.
