One of my seedlings out of a batch of 12 (Liz's sang x vulc) is suckering heavily from the base.
The 'mother' is only about 15cm tall, still very young, and somewhat fuzzy. The suckers have no fuzz. I dug it out and there is quite the callus from which the suckers are sprouting.
I find this interesting because it is grown exactly the same as the others, and not one other has a sucker.
Does anyone know why it would sucker? There are no pests. I read that a callus growth on x flava roots is normal.
Thanks, Dennis
Suckering seedling?
Hi Dennis,
nobody knows why this happens.I have had it several times at sangs, flavas, arboreas and rarely at aurea and candida.
Watching this "callus-bulbs" sometimes I guess I am watching a evolution from a bulb...
It looks to me like the plant is trying or finding out how to create a bulb or something similar for a reproduktion of itself.
I tryed to root such callus it didīnt work.
I take away such growth from the plants, it takes away energy from the mainplant.

Thank you Ludger. It does take away energy from the mother, she is quite small compared to the others. I will clip this off.
Dennis
