Brugmansia sport?

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

Peaches and cream was planted in this container ALONE- sprouting up next to it appears to be a sport of P&C. It's very vigorious and it's trying to take over the world. It's not bloomed. I keep hacking it back and it sends out more shoots. It's the most un-brug like plant I've grown. Has anyone else had this happen?

I'm going to seperate the plants- when would be the best time to do this? Anyone want cuttings from it?

I (of course) included some photos. *hey, women with digital camera that FINALLY knows how to use it, LOL

Hugs* Kristi

Another shot of the stems- See how the extra plant sends out shoots EVERYWHERE! I keep them clipped and clipped and they still come back.

Close up of the sport- it that's what you call something like this. I'm thinking in hosta terms.

I'd love a cutting from it!

Since P&C is variegated to begin with... I'd think it'd more likely be reverting back to green?? I'm sure some of the hybridizers will know. The green shoots are coming up from the roots? I wonder if P&C itself is a sport. Sorry. I guess I'm not much help -lol. I try :o)

Your probably right Poppysue- I wonder how often this happens? All my other P&C have been stable. Wonder what the bloom will look like? I know one thing, it spreads from the roots like no other brugmansia I've had before.

It's still sending up new shoots and it's in a VERY cold room with not very much light.

Then I'd definitely keep some cuttings from the part that's different. You may have spontaneously developed a very hardy strain.

I'm pretty sure the term 'sport' works for any kind of plant, not just hostas.

city?? lol sticks, AR(Zone 7a)

Datdog I would love a cutting if its not too much trouble? Email my your addy if you want to share you kudzoo brug:)

Kudzu (LOL), I was thinking 'Peaches without Cream'! I would let it grow up and bloom, Kristi, maybe the flower is different, too.

Thanks- I'm out of cuttings for right now. I'm only going to cut one of the stalks to the ground. The other I'm going to try and seperate and grow as a standard.

HOWEVER- at the rate this monster grows I will have more cuttings very soon.

Kristi
