and still they bloom!
Almost freezing
You are so lucky. We are going to be warm today, but that will be the end of it. Later this weekend, our high temps will be in the twenties. Everything is already gone here, so it will be no big deal except that the furnace will run more.
Stacey, looking good. did you plant seeds outside?
We had frost all over the cars this morning but no ground freeze. A few things are still struggling to bloom.
I've not planted any seeds...I'm really having a problem with that fungus still...any chance that the cold might help?? I've sprayed (ACK!) twice so far but it just seems to be spreading. We've had so many really wet mornings even when it isn't raining. Any suggestions...anyone??
Oh, such a site. You are lucky indeed. Thanks for sharing.
Really enjoyed your pic. We are finally having sunshine, today, sure don't have many days that it shows up, 5"-1/2" of snow on the ground, temps 43, so may get some of it out of the way, sure hope so, already I've got "cabin fever"!
mine has improved with cold, but i can't tell you how many mornings it has been under 35 here, i think at least 25-30. i doubt you'll be cold enough to affect it. i would strip off all the leaves and then spray with a fungicide according to directions, top of soil too. throw leaves away not on ground. can't remember the name of the stuff Cala recommended.
this fungus is listed in pressiel's book without directions to fix it, and everyone that came to my house with brugs, including tig i think, had it to some degree on their brugs.
i think i heard you sigh. the leaves will grow back quickly. lots of work though.
LOL Arlene...SIGH! I stipped all but the very new growth once before, poor naked Brugs! I'll do that again and I'll do all the seedlings, etc too. You can see in this picture there are only leaves at the end of the branches. I'll get on that again this weekend.
Saturday I have an appointment at a native plant nursery...that should be loads of fun. hehehe, I hope I get to spend part of my wedding budget!!
Stacey, maybe some one will have a better idea, don't know. a native nursery sounds great! they had the native plant sale here on the same day as the kanapaha sale this year (they messed up). we didn't get to that one, other side of town also, i'd already spent my money at kanapaha when we found out.
the fungus doesn't seem to be bothering the leaves or flowers on this pic. also, the seeds we picked when you were here, the pink beauty/rosamond... unlikely to be good, the worm thing i think.
looking Good Stacy going to warm up tonite only getting down in the fortys it should be a little warmer here in Gulfport allway is......lol
Stacey,
What fungus thing? What does it look like? I had some problems earlier this summer but all seems well now that we have had some consistant cold weather.
Weeds, here's my original thread about the spots/fungus http://davesgarden.com/t/366919/
Stacey, i read on brugie's posting what it is, i couldn't think of the name yesterday, leaf drop. funny thing i found it in one of my regular plant books, then saw it in pressiel's book.
Oh, that is what I had too! What did yoy spray with that didn't work? What are you going to spray with that will work? ha
Stacey, that sure is a cheerful picture! Today, I cut back my poor brugs; they did get cold damaged, but was putting out new growth on the tips of the leafless brances, but this last cold snap did them in. My yard really looks empty; cannot wait til Spring!
Hi Roz! Off the subject but my mother loved her bracelet, tell your grandaughters!
My plants are slowly getting hurt but are still somewhat ok. Haven't had that big freeze yet. I think another week or so and all will be gone.
Hey Connie! The cold finally got to my brugs. For some reason I had hoped that maybe this year we would not have a heavy freeze - wrong! I'm glad Virginia likes her bracelet. Tell her hi for me.
Would it be really harsh to cut these back and everything else that has the fungus??...They HAVE to be in full bloom in April!! They are part of my color scheme LOL
I sprayed my brugs with Daconil a couple of times when they had the fungus problem and it went away. I've had no trouble since then with it. I'd sure hate to cut them back if they would be blooming anytime soon. Can't hurt to try the fungus spray and if that doesn't work you could cut them back, but the fungus isn't just on the leaves, it is probably in the plant. If that IS the case, cutting them back wouldn't get rid of the fungus.
Thanks Brugie. I think part of my problem is that it has been *so* wet here, our ground mists are thick as fog! Nothing has a chance to dry out before it is soaked again and now I'm hearing it's supposed to rain again this weekend! OhhhNoooo!
Well Stacey, send some of that moisture up here. We need it desperately. Our moisture is about 25 inches below normal for the last three years. About 11 inches below normal for just last year and still nothing in sight. Grass and timber fires are an every day occurance here now. It doesn't help when we have high winds either.
Oh gosh, that does look a bit damp. Actually looks cold too. Hope you can figure out how to save all your brugs. Looks like that kind of weather would be hard to fight.
If only we could smell them through the screen!
I know that my weather is nothing compared to the ones up north, but I hate it when we lose 20 degrees a day.
Wednesday - 75* sunshine, no wind, outside all day in a t-shirt.
Thursday - 55* partly cloudy, 30 mph wind, felt a lot colder
Friday - 35* cloudy & windy
