Flowers and seedpods forming
Wow, that is gorgeous. Nice picture, too.
Figures it's not hardy to zone 5. :(
Lovely photo - looks like a painting.
What a gorgeous little flower. I don't think I've ever seen one of those. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that it's not native to the US. I don't see it in any of my FL native plant books. Might have to try to find it anyway. I just love that little blue lip!
I have one of these growing in a 10" plastic pot on my front porch in Atlanta (zone 7). It survived last winter, but this year it has gotten down to 7 degrees. I'm not sure if it will come back from the dead or not. Beautiful flowers, but the plant is lanky and bare. The wasps and bees love it. The wasps will actually go around to the rear of the flower and punture the base of it to get the nectar.
Does this set seed? I've been looking for this for a long time.
Floridian.....please take a cutting for me! I had several but I think the cold got them...yikes! They are wonderful plants. Maybe they will come back this spring, if we ever have spring.
Evert, these plants do set seed but it froze before they were ready. I'll watch it more carefully this year. These were hit hard in our freezes this winter, mine is just a couple of dead looking sticks but it is alive!! I checked it just this morning...
Eco, I'll be watching the critters on this for sure!
Weeds, you bet! Soon as it's big enough I'll make some cuttings. I wonder how easy it is to root??
:) Thanks
FLO, they are really easy to root...just stick some in some dirt.
Hope mine comes back this year, it was gorgeous, and got huge..it was about 3 ft. X 3ft..and bloomed and bloomed .. But we have had more cold also this year. Probably be wishing I had taking cuttings.

Larkie, if I have any survive or get another one I will send you one.
i WOULD LIKE TO TRADE FOR A CUTTING FROM EITHER ONE OF YOU. pLEASE LET ME KNOW IF THIS IS POSSIBLE. tHANKS
Thanks Weeds,
I am keeping my fingers crossed..I dug down to the base of the plant this morning, and all looks pretty good, so maybe!! I appreciate the offer, and I may take you up on it..

I wouldn't mind offering cuttings if it returns this year. Last spring I cut the dead stems down to the ground and it came back up on new wood. I did see seeds form, but they look like buckshot and I haven't tried to germinate any. I assume they'd need scarification. Wrinkled little black peas, hard as a rock.
