It was in Brazil, this past December, that I've been introduced to this plant which seed is known as "semente de Aguai" or "chapeu de Napoleao". There is a book published by Dr. Henrique Smith titled "Aguai Zen - para macrobioticos" and, according to the book, intensive researches and studies showed the healing power of these seeds, such as kidney stones. Some renowened doctors endorse this statements in Brazil. I was curious to find out more in the Internet and I ended up in your site.

Only that the plant also grows well in cooler regions like here Argentina, and my seed had an amazing germinative strengh, it grew up in 6 days! Glad to know the portuguese name in case I could get more information on my next trip. Where have you been there? I usually spend my vacations there delighting in such a wonderful nature...

Looking on the web I found seed it's rather letal... I wonder why then all this people eat them... it might be medicinal at low doses perhaps. What does the book say about the toxins thevetin, thevetoxin and cerebrin it contains?

I was in Mogi das Cruzes, Sao Paulo State, in a country side called Cocuera, 1 hour away from Sao Paulo city. My mother in law has a lovely "pousada" type house for rent, surrounded by beautiful nature. I learned about that miraculous plant from my brother in law but also coincidently from my holistic theraphist sister, Keiko, who has taken several classes with professor Silvio Panizza regarding holistic medicine, including this "semente de Aguai" subject. If you can read Portuguese you would be delighted to discover so many healing power of this "Napoleon Hat" seed.

I can read portuguese I'll try to see if the book is available. Take for sure that if as an alopathic drug has such strong effect, it would have wonderful effects if used in a holistic or homeopathic aproach. Mother nature already gave us all we need, but as mother's invents cannot be patented we're all losing daily miracles for centuries! If I get some seeds next time I'll bring some to a friend of mine who makes her own floral recipies. I've also read that those good luck "fabas" (mucuna pruriens) found on the beach has healing and energetic properties but not clear what. Paul.

According to the book, this seed indeed is very toxic if eaten. What the book suggests is that the seed has special vibrations that can be captured by radiestesics process and this vibration or energy is responsible for human's well being. You can see the Kirlian photo and its energy emaneting from the seed. The book also says that there is Yin (female) seed and Yang (male) seed and depending on individual's own energy vibration (positive or negative) he/she should carry Yin or Yang seed next to the body to get the best of the benefits. When you start harvesting your seeds, you should experience yourself the good energy and feeling of well being around you, inside you and your entire family should experience that life indeed offers so many good things ( if you are not experiecing them yet!, according to the book)

Which part of Argentina are you from?
I was born and grew up in Brazil but presently I'm living in the USA where from early November to late April I can not enjoy much of the outdoor activities such as gardening because of the cold winter. I spent my childhood in a country side whith parents who loved fruit trees, flowers and lots of home grown vegetables.
I cherish those past moments when Mother Nature was so generous giving us all the precious food direct from the soil where we lived and worked. Today I buy all the vegetables and fruits from supermarket and most of them are not organic. Do you grow your own vegetables? Nair

I wish I could grow them Nair... but just can have that deep sadness when buying those decaing veggies at the supermarket. I live in Buenos Aires in a terraced flat, so I only can grow potted plants. I also cherish Mother Nature so much that my hopes are set that way, one day I expect to be able to live in its contemplation and selfsustained, thou it's becoming materially harder to keep pace on that direction... I'm trying to go to Ilha Grande - RJ on March, a long delayed dream, it seems a wonderful natural place and not very commercialy infected... Hope you can come back soon. Paul.

I lived also in an apartment in Sao Paulo and used to plant flowers in pots but Brazil is still a very blessed country in terms of fresh vegetables if compared to where I live now. As I mentioned before, I spent my childhood in a country side and one of my greatest dream while in a small apartment in Sao Paulo was that one day I would have my own single home with a spot of soil where I could play with seeds, flowers, fruits and vegetables.
Well, I forgot to ask God where exactly I wanted to so He gave me everything including white snow in the winter and beautifl autunm colors in the fall. Be very precise about your dreams because God will give you exactly what you want and maybe some more.

Hello iam very sorry for intruding but iam studying about the seed,so when i read the conversation u guys had going i was intrested. The reason why iam studing this seed is because my people use this seed for music and our dancers use these's seeds on there feet.
I wanted to know if u guys have ever talk to people from mexico about the seed ?
