IM help please

Ok guys, I guess it's time to learn about IM. Even though I started on the computer 3 yrs. ago, I am not very literate in computer lingo still. I can't even figure out how to do my Journal here at Daves yet.

So, if you can explain in very simple terms, how can I set up IM for myself so I can chat with people once in awhile?

My SIL is coming over tomorrow to install a CD burner on our computer and I am going to ask him if he can help me understand the journal thing. Wish me luck!!
