I have some hot pepper seeds to trade for these 3 I'm seeking. Email me for the list.
The Jalepeno I want is the one that Jungs & Burpee's offer, that has the taste but not the heat.
Wanted: Pepper seeds, Ancho, Anaheim & False Jalepeno
Ancho is the dried form of the pepper known fresh as Poblano, hope that helps in your search. It is not that hot, but has a wonderful flavor. John
Yea, I knew that -- just got them reversed. I can buy Poblanos here fresh @ Shop Rite sometimes but not often. The last time I roasted up about a dozen, diced them and froze 'em. But that won't last too long. I love the fact that they are flavorful but not too hot.....we're wusses in this house, unfortunately.
mom2cats, I have much (hot)pepper seeds! but not those which you want....are you interested other pepper-seeds?
HiyaMom,
Are you wedded to the jalapeno? The non-hot Jals just taste kind of green, with no real flavor.
However, there are numerous "hot" peppers with little or no heat. All of the seasoning peppers of the Carribean, for instance, generically called "sweet habaneros" bring real flavor with no heat. Among them:
Aji Dulce
AMA 11
Atarodo
Rocotillo
Tobago Blocky Seasoning
Tobago Sweet Scotch Bonnet
Tobago Yellow Seasoning
If you want to go with plants instead of growing from seed, the largest pepper plant nursery in the country is right there in NJ, and takes mail orders. And they have an incredible website. Check out Cross Country Nurseries at www.chileplants.com
Also, don't forget all of the non-bell sweet peppers, which bring some interting flavors to the table. Plus, if you want flavor without heat, the paprika and pimento peppers might serve your needs.
Mitjo -- I'm looking for NON-hot peppers -- with just a mild heat to them - like the Poblanos. I have hot seeds only cuz someone traded me for them and I took them cuz I thought someone else would like them. Thanks anyway.
Brook -- I'll write you back personally.
I think I have some non hot too.....I check and tell!
I remember one which make almost black peppers.......that seeds I have......it`s not hot, it is very thin.....
I have some seeds for Serrano Peppers I think that is the kind that is used to make stuffed dishes, not too hot.
You are welcome to some. I don't have a lot, but I can part with a few of them...
I may have some others, for non-hot peppers....I will look.
Melva
Holly,
Just saw this..I'll get you a few Poblano's in the mail on Monday..I only have a few, but only a few plants really do produce well.
Larkie
Thanks Melva and Larkie! Anything you guys want that I might have??
Larkie, I'll take you up on the poblanos, but the serrano's, Melva are too hot for us. We're real wusses.
I don't want many seeds as I intend to put them in planters...in case we are lucky enough to move outta this @!#($ state!!! So just a couple will do.....enough to get maybe 3 plants out of, ok?
Holly,
I was thinking the Serranos were mild. I have since discovered, they are not mild...even if you are a wuss (which you admit, that you are) You will probably like the Poblano Pepper. We like Hot Peppers. Phil's latest thing, is to put peppers that we grew with the roses, into Everything! They were supposed to be Habaneros but I think they were some variety that is even hotter...
Melva
Yes, Mevla,I am a true wuss! Funny thing is, I can eat chinese mustard until my eyes and nose run, but cannot tolerate hot peppers. I actually have had the serranos - thought I was gonna die! :-)
"Mild" and "Hot" are relative terms. For a dyed-in-the-capsicum chilihead, Serranos are mild. But for someone like Mom, they are very hot. Here's why:
Pepper pungency is measured in Schoville Heat Units (SHU). Poblano measures 1,000-1,500 SHUs, which makes it a very mild chile. Serranos, on the other hand, are up to 20,000 SHUs. Compared to Habanero, at plus/minus 350,000 SHU, that puts them in the mild category, but it's still more than ten times the heat of the Poblano.
Right Brook, us wusses can't stand that heat!! That is absolutely the reason. And trust me, I am "pushing the limit" with the Poblanos! I think maybe some of my tastebuds have died over the years cuz just a few years ago I'd be griping about even the extra mild green chilies! Hey maybe in the next couple of years I can move up a couple of 'notches' on the Schoville scale! :-)
Brook--- Larkie -- you have snail mail coming.
