Need advice

Summitville, IN(Zone 5b)

I have several large brugs in my dungeon of a basement for the winter. I checked on them over the weekend and realized that my basement is staying about 55-60 degrees. They get no light. Of course all the leaves have fallen and they look ok, but should I be concerned about the warm temps? I could find places for them upstairs but this would require an attorney because my DH would surely divorce me if I asked him to haul these big babies back up the stairs! What do you all think?

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I do not know as I have never let mine go dormant Michelle, but I would think if they look alright they should be OK! And if they are not putting out new leaves I guess that qualifies for them being either dormant or dead.

LOL Rootdoctor........is that yours gone dormant??? NOT!

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Kell,Never heard bout this dormant stuff.HE! HE!

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

Kell- that inspires a lot of confidence, dormant or dead! LOL. Sorry Michelle, you should be OK as long as they are kept mostly dry. I'm not a big fan of using these plants during the winter in the house - they need a break from blooming. Dark, relatively cool and relatively dry.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

I put mine in the basement every winter, 60 degrees is as high as it ever gets, more like 50's. Water every 3 weeks, not much, just enough to keep them alive, but not growing. Have done this for 3 years with no problems. Good luck!

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Kell,so I need to tell them go to sleep? These are in livingroom.

basements full,LOL

See Hibiscus has come to the rescue with appropriate and real life advice.

Rootdoctor........... you must know how to talk plant talk the way you get your things to grow. It can't all be rabbit do. Most brugs indoors do not look so happy! Monika has told us that wild ones go dormant for about 6 to 8 weeks I believe. I can't get mine to go dormant so I am not going to worry about it.

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

I'm gonna whisper to the ones downstairs an see if I can get em to bloom under lights,LOL,That would be a Hoot, don't count the ol Doc out on this Brug thing,I don't know how you do the 30 or 40 different type deal,I confuse the names of the ones I have, much less whispering in thier ears, sleep or grow.LOL!
