Hello. I bought my first Brugmansia this past spring and would like to know what care it needs over the winter. I am in Zone 6. I brought it inside, put it in a semi-sunny (West) location and have been watering it once a week. I have a very dry house and it has lost most of its leaves. Should I cut it back or just leave it as is? It bloomed beautifully all summer and is about 5 feet tall. I will not be able to put it back outside until late April or early May. I would appreciate any input from all of you experts! I've enjoyed your photos and comments. Have meant to post this comment since October and hope it's not too late to save this wonderful plant. Thank you and Happy New Year!
Overwintering my Brugmansia
Welcome. they do lose their leaves when brought inside, and usually again when taken back out, at least for me. i wouldn't cut anything off.
I agree with Arlene. If you have the room don't cut it back and you'll have more flowers this summer. When new leaves start to appear keep a look out for spider mites if your house is dry as they love a warm dry atmosphere.
I consider this sort of a dormant period for brugs. They don't look great, but they are alive and next spring they will come back full force. Be sure to start fertilizing in the spring. The brugs in my little makeshift greenhouse are still blooming on occassion, but the ones in the house aren't.
Welcome abt100. Hope you will come back and visit with us often.
