Sponging

Albany (again), NY(Zone 5b)

Here goes - in a fit of semi-inspiration and 50% madness, I have started tearing down the wall paper in the office. When we bought the house, it looked like a nursery with blue and white wallpaper. It's half down and now I realize I have committed to it and there is no going back.

I'd like to do the office with a sponging technique. I admired a restaurant lately that had a yellow with gold on top, or maybe it was gold with yellow on top. So warm and elegant. From what I've read, it looks like it was sponged.

Room size approx. 12X12
two 2X3 windows on one wall set fairly high
1 2X3 window on another wall set fairly high

Any recommended ideas?
Brands of paint?
Books?
Types of sponges?
Dire warnings? :)

I'll try to take and post a picture of the office so you can laugh at what I'm starting with. And since this is my first, do-it-yourself project, I think I want to do a before and after.

Happy New Years to all - I guess since the New Year is a time for changes, that might be what started all of this!
