Transplanting seedlings into a container garden

Madison, WI(Zone 5a)

I could use some advice on transplanting some seedlings I have grown into my container garden. I've got a number of herb seedlings in a seedling bed that I have been growing under florescent grow lights. They are getting pretty big, but I'm not sure how big they should be before I pot them. Please help.

In spring when I am working at pricking out various plants I have seeded , I always wait till the first set of true leaves after those first two emerge. You know what I mean, most of the time the first set of leaves to emerge are not what the leaves look like of whatever you are growing, it is usually the second set of leaves that are true to the species. It sounds like yours are ready to transplant now.

If they're getting too big for the flat, you can repot them into individual 4" pots, which should hold them just fine until Spring, when you can transplant them to your garden.

What, specifically, are you talking about?

basil, lemonbalm, chives, sweet marjoram, thyme, garlicchilves, camomille, sage, parsley, savory, dill, lavender, mustard, catnip

Richmond, KY(Zone 6b)

Those can all be repotted and transplanted with no problems.
