Hello farmers,"lurkers", and all interested DGers,
I spent the morning potting up my daphne cuttings. I did get my nursery license last fall and call my nursery Blumegarten. It comes from German meaning Flower Garden. Our heritage is German and Mt. Angel the town I live near is very German with an annual Oktoberfest festival with the Biergarten, Winegarten, and all. So I played off all those tidbits of information. I took the cuttings last July, after the new growth had toughened up some. I have one mother plant and another lady in town invited me to take cuttings. I will plant a few more plants in the garden for mother stock. I also had rock daphnes I tried and they rooted pretty well also. I also took cuttings from a Korean Lilac and they rooted terrific. Oregon is the leader in the US for nursery stock. They are the one type of farming here that seems to be still doing very well. So I am trying on a very small scale. I have ordered plugs for the Coreopsis,Limerock Ruby , flat of delphiniums, and some red fountain grass,(pennisetum rubrum). Last year I tried about 7 different ornamental grasses and that wasn't too great. I also start things from seed. I sell on consignment to another nursery that retails.I have some echinacea to repot into gallons while it is dormant. I do enjoy this.DH is busy in the shop doing many various maintenance projects on equipment. His brother is helping. Do take care all, Joann
