What a beautiful shot! I have some potted aloe indoors. How come every time I try to put them outside, they sunburn? I don't even put them in full sun; just a shady deck. I have never seen an aloe bloom before; what kind of fertilizer do you use and how often?
That is very beautiful. I had no idea that it bloomed. I have some smaller varieties inside that are very old but they have never bloomed.I don`t think they could survive the winters here.
Great view, but that plant is not Aloe vera.
These are growing here in California in many public places, in full Sun and never see frost.
Vince, what then are they? I would like to move the pictures where they belong.
Hmmm...true Vince. Aloe vera (a.k.a. barbadensis) is shown in my book with white flowers. Could this be "arborescens"? (Normally shown with more reddish flowers but maybe the color is off due to the camera?)
I have aloe, LOTS of it, and they bloom with orangish flowers (like above), so I'm interested in finding out the true name also.
Horseshoe, can you grow yours outside in the sun in warm weather?
Howdy woodspirit. Yes, I can but they have to get acclimated (sp?). They actually get sunburnt if I don't harden them off for it so I put them outside in the shade, then semi-shade or filtered light. Eventually they can handle sun pretty good, altho whereever I put them it seems they don't get it all day long (I'd have to put them in the middle of the veggie garden for that).
It is Aloe arborescens and that is the exact color of the flowers. Great picture.
That is a nice looking plant!
Is aloe aborescens also medicinal?
That's a beautiful picture!
Many of the aloes have a sap that will irritate your skin so beware and do plenty of research on them first.
