Kristi's White seedling

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

Kristi (Datdog) sent us some cuttings last fall. Between her cuttings getting mixed up before she sent them out, and moving from Virginia to New Jersey, she ended up not keeping one of these for herself. She asked me if it is worth keeping and naming. I don't know! I have very little experience and absolutely no objectivity! This is only my third plant to bloom, and it's blooming the week before Christmas, so I would love it no matter what it looked like. That being said, I really DO like this one. It has 2" long tendrils on a 10" flower, and it has a sweet, light scent. It is in an unheated bedroom, you can smell it faintly during the day, and the one flower perfumes the whole room at night. This was taken last night, the fifth night it was open. What do y'all think of it?

I forgot to say, I'M keeping it no matter what, and Kristi is getting cuttings in the spring.

This is pretty. I like the long tendrils.

Well what do you know! My first white seedling. She's pretty, I also like the long tendrils.
You know Ronna, I might have this one after all. The foliage looks like the one that I brought with me- never bloomed. But GREW like a monster. Is the bud a yellowish color before the flower opened?

Yes, PLEASE save me a cutting. I'd like to keep it. After all, I don't have one white brugmansia. How is this possible? Thanks for the picture. You brightened my day.

Hugs* Kristi

I love white brugs and this one is stunning. Put it where you can see it at night........... white at night is so elegant! How great!

Thanks, y'all. Kristi, it grew really well for all three of us, Mom's flower opened up a couple of days before mine, and Julie's will open in a few days. Most of my other brugs had to be staked up after summer storms, they bent over so badly, but this one never did. It stayed straight and tall, no matter how much wind and rain was thrown at it. The wind did tatter the leaves more than the others, because of the size of them (9" across, 18" long). Mine is about 6' tall, Mom's is a little under 5', and I'm not sure how tall Julie's is. The bud was a little bit yellow the morning before it opened, but it was mostly green. The calyx was REALLY fat before it split and the flower started coming out. You will definitely get some cuttings in the spring, you HAVE to have one of your own babies!

This flower just fell off today. It lasted 23 nights! Mom's lasted about 2 weeks, it fell off right around Christmas, and she had too many things going on to notice which day it was. Julie's opened on the 30th, she's going to keep track of how long hers lasts. Mom also had Dr. Suess blooming in her garage, those flowers were lasting 10 days each.

wow 23 nghts....... that is amaizng........ did the cold preserve it? sounds like a keeper to me

One flower lasted that long? Not to bad, huh? Even if she is white. Like Kell, I wonder if the cool weather had anything to do with it? Thanks for keeping me updated.

Sorry that I didn't answer y'all before. I think that the cool room probably did make the flower last longer. Julie had a bud on her other brug that she thought was a different variety, but Mom and I thought that it was the white one. It opened up a couple of days ago, and it is the white one. She's going to watch both plants, and let us know how long the flowers last. We really wanted to know how long Mom's lasted, because her Dr. Suess was blooming at the same time, and it would give us something to compare it to. It did last a few days longer than Dr. Suess, but we don't know how many.
