I am thrilled about this site! I have such a love and passion for plants and gardening! Here in Dubai it can be frustrating finding out about plants I am not familiar with. I came across a dombeya waletchii a few years ago and no one seemed to know what it was at the time. I like it, planted it in my garden and fell in love. The pink balls of flowers ,which resembled hydrangea blooms, exuded a honey smell that attracted honey bees. The flowers dried on the tree/shrub and turned a beautiful golden yellow. Sadly to say that I only got to enjoy it for one year before moving to another house. I had my gardener to dig it up and transplant it in my new garden. Unfortunately, it did not make it and for 5 years now I have looked for another one and can not find one! The garden market in Dubai is rather small compared to the States! If any of you have the chance to buy or plant of Dombeya Waleechii I highly recommend them!
Goodmorning Everyone!

I am originally from Georgia...I have lived here Dubai for 20 years! (half of my life!)
I am 9 hours ahead of EST so I am a day ahead of ya'll hehehe! It is nearly the 20th here!
Welcome to all of you newbies. Daves is a great place and I'm sure you will become adicted to this place in no time.
Welcome all of you to DG - we're sure glad you're gardening with us!
A great big welcome from an old lady in southern Arizona. This is THE place to find information and friends. Make yourself at home....(where is Dubai?) Jo
Dubai is a city in the country of United Arab Emirates. The United Arab Emirates is a small country located on the Arabia(Persian) Gulf to make it simpler...We are down from Kuwait on the Saudi Peninsula...We are located on the "toe" of the Saudi "boot"

Chamma what part of Georgia did you live in?
Welcome, Chamma, from two Ohioans. My hubby is Howie here at DG. :) Nine hours ahead of us...Boy, that'll be harder to remember than Laura's timezone in Australia! She's fourteen hours ahead of us, so I just add two to whatever time it is here and at least I know the hour, LOL!
I am from Washington County ...Sandersville, Georgia
Chamma,you have mail.Root
Thanks Gardenwife... I really like this site and I am having a lot of fun learning tips from other avid gardeners!
It is probably pretty cold where you are? I worked with Air Tran airways last year and we flew into Canton OH and I got to fly there alot..It was spring and the weather was quite unpredictable!
Unpredictable? Ohio weather? Chamma, the state motto should have been "If you don't like the weather, wait five minutes, because it'll change." It's 35 here now, and some freezing rain just passed through; the radar's clear now for a while, and I'm glad the dogs have already been out their last time of the night! Hubby works nights, so we're night owls and the dogs keep our weird schedule, of course. ;)
Chamma....my granddaughter is in the Persian Gulf...aboard the USS Abe Lincoln! Give her a wave if you see her ship!! Jo
Welcome Chamma. It looks like you traded Georgia clay for sand. Tell us why you are living in Dubai.
Roadrunner...I will certainly give the USS Abe LINCOLN a big wave and I hope your granddaughter sees me!...I am a block from the shore...And the reason I traded the red clay for sand....I married an Arab...A Palestinian from Lebanon who owns a construction company here in Dubai. We have 4 teenagers... 2 sons and 2 daughters and have been married for 20 years.

Hi from Alaska, Chamma. I, too, have been enjoying the wonderful pictures you have posted in the Garden and on the Plant Database. We're so glad to welcome you here.
Thanks Weezingreens! Gosh, it must be pretty chilly where you are! It is our flowering season here in Dubai...and I am glad I can share some of the beautiful flowers and sites that I am enjoying here! I won't have much blooming in the summer besides bougainvillias and vinca in the summer so I will rely on the rest of ya'll to show me what's blooming in your gardens and yards!!! ;)
I suppose that is one of the advantages of having members from all over the world... something is always green and blooming! Yes, it is cold up here, or somewhat... about 35 degrees F. right now... 9:10pm. Our growing season begins May with early perennials such as tulips, crocus, etc, then by early June we can set out our bedding plants. The season is pretty much over by mid September or so. During those short growing months, it is quite green and beautiful here.
Chamma:
Welcome! I have really enjoyed your pictures too . . . sure is cheery to see some bright bountiful blooms when it is all snowy outside here!
Welcome to Dave's! Glad to have you.
