I fertilize with a weak solution of phostogen. Let it dry out between waterings...Lots of light...be sure to deadhead regularly!

Can anyone tell me how to try to bring this plant back to life? My son got it for me for mothers day and he thought he was helping and cut it a little to much now the stem is turning black and I'm pretty sure it's not gonna make it but I would like to try to bring it back. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance
