Need advice

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

I checked the plants in the GH today and noticed that the Super Nova, Rosamond(not) and HG are starting to droop at the very tops of the stems. The new little leaves are drying up. It hasn't gone below 44 degrees night time and stays about 55 day time temp.No signs of bugs and the main trunks look good. I'm watering about once a week when the soil is dry. Is it too cool? Am I watering too much, not enough?

Probably a bit too cool for HG. Have you got them under MH lights, if so, you probably need to water a bit more. JMHO

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

No lights Jeanne. And we haven't had much natural light either lately with the snowstorms.

They probably need more heat and light, especially HG. It's a picky one, doesn't like to get cold.

Brugvalley, Germany(Zone 7b)

Snow,
I think Jeanne is right.
10 to 15° Celsius is ok. 44 degrees sounds very cold for HG.
Keep it very dry.
Can you put HG on a windowplace in your house (home)? or cuttings?
GL

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Guess I better drag HG into the house too. Before long Jim and I are going to have to move to the garage.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Ludger, It's about 5 feet high. I'll have it brought into the sunroom tomorrow and put it in front of the window.
Jeanne, thanks for the help. I'll probably have to bring Super Nova in too if the coolness is the problem.
There hasn't been much sun lately. We've been getting hit with one snowstorm after another. Getting more snow tonight.

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

I have HG in the dark basement. It's about 60 degrees down there. I recently noticed it has a tiny Y with an eenie-weenie bud. The plant looks like hell - no leaves except for some sickly yellow ones at the top.... but there's still hope for next summer. It'd be nice if someone could get this one to bloom. It's also one that got the cell-blast in the fall when I let them get too cold. It sure is fussy.... Doesn't like too be too hot, too humid, or too cold! If I got a couple of blooms it might be worth it - but I doubt it.

(Zone 6a)

I have an HG in the basement that someone can have if they want it. It is about 8 in. tall and losing it's larger leaves. Think it is too cool for it.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

If mine doesn't bloom next summer, it is compost.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Oh don't make me start raiding everyones compost piles.....

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Seriously, I will dump it, but will give out cuttings first. Have to wait and see what it will do for me next year.

Brugvalley, Germany(Zone 7b)

HG is not worth to talk about it...lol.

Monika and me are working on better orange doubles.

And other double Brugs.
GL

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

That is good news Ludger, but until then we don't have much choice here in the states. I'll still give it one more summer. It is a challenge, you know. :-)

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Mines got till next summer and then it's gone. It's the only colored double I have and really wanted it for breeding.

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

No blooms - no breeding!

Gee, Owen, I wish I'd known that you wanted to dump an HG, you could have thrown anything you didn't want into my box, I'd be happy to take them off your hands! Thank you again for my Butterfly, it's all tucked in, and should take off soon. You made my Christmas merrier!

Ludger - HURRY, HURRY, HURRY!!! We want doubles!!! Every color, every shape, happy to grow, and happy to bloom.

Brugvalley, Germany(Zone 7b)

Shirley and Snow,
smile: It is a challenge to get a blooming HG. I know...
I have this brug still...

All I can say: Soon we will have much seeds from orange double pollinations. I trust my Avalon. And Desiree from Mme.Blin.
Ronna, just wait,smile.

Liz,

Does that mean Avalon x Desiree= dbl orange? Wow, now let's go for a dbl. pink!

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

I'm hoping it says that Hibiscus - I've seen what Altavista can do with German to English so it's a shot in the dark that it actually says that - LOL

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

Hey you all - that sounds pretty good! They dont need to translate my book. You all can do it much better.

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

For my part Monika I just hope I'm not saying anything rude. LOL

Brugvalley, Germany(Zone 7b)

Wow,

we should start a new thread: learning english-deutsch.

Liz your translating is ok. Desiree or HG x Avalon should hopefully give us some orange double. I also am waiting for doubles x Rothkirch and Maya x HG. I hope in 3 -6 weeks they will be ripe.
