That is impressive. Where is that? That'll be my next outing.
That is the Bennett Juniper, oldest known western juniper. Its fenced off to protect the shallow roots of the tree. You can find it up near Sonora Pass in the Sierras. You can find info on it from the Redwood conservation group.

LOL. You may have to wait till spring! If you think thats a cool tree you should see the methusalah tree ( a bristle-cone pine, the oldest tree alive) in the white mountians.
Would that be near Bishop or Big Pine off 395?
I love the biggies in Sequoia Nat'l. Park as well.
You can pass through Bishop on the way (and don't forget to pick something up from the world's best bakery there :) ) The whole area is fun to explore but the road to the real big Bristle-cones and Limber pines is unpaved and LONG. Popped a tire on that dang road! You should stop at some of the hot springs if your in that area ;) Real fun!
Bin through there a few times. Always stop at Erick Schats. Didn't know about the hot springs.
Rootdoc, thats even taller than the corn in Kansas.

lol, Ulrich. It's not how HIGH the corn grows, it's how MUCH of it they grow. Sheesh! You feel like you're going in circles (and passing the same corn and wheat fields repeatedly) when you drive across Kansas!
Drove the full width of it once; a whole day of deja vu!
Bump,I know it's late, just got done watching a Topeka PBS on the Methuselah,Wanna see pics.
Thanks CoyoteSpirit an Ulrich,I try to Learn something every day!
sometimes it doesn't work.
