Heavenly Bamboo, Nandina (Nandina domestica)

Gainesville, GA(Zone 7a)

This shrub grows quickly and multiplies rapidly. It makes some very nice berries for winter time enjoyment.

These are growing on the walkway outside my office. I love taking a couple of sprigs of leaves and some berries and putting them in this old Oaxacan (pretty much pure lead I think) vase on my desk. Lovely. Heavenly indeed. Nice photo.

ahha so this what is growing in the lot that is being transformed out back i was just talking with the landscape architect about what we are saving and getting rid of in the redo now i can go take another look and see if maybe i can't find a home for a few of these beauties

This plant is extremely toxic to cats. The berries can be deadly to humans, as well, so not good around small children. Cedar Waxwings are also very sensitive to these berries. Many birds do eat them and scatter the seed but they can suffer from the toxicity. Lovely plant, but be very careful with it.
