Sprouts :)

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

2 have sprouted from an immature pod with white seeds. The cross is Rosa Traum x Camille. The seedlings look pretty tiny right now but I'm happy they sprouted. There was a bunch in the pod so there still might be more to come.

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

Congrats poppysue. I hope you get a wonderful plant from them.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Poppysue, congrats! i have to ask, is it the real rosa traum? i'm not aware of anyone in the states that has the real rosa traum, and this is one that i personally want more than RK or lamour.
also, Hibiscus' rosa traum from lbj turned out to be really camille, right? thanks....

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Arlene, that's what they are saying,Camille. Sure hope it turns out to be "something", halfways' good! I threw mine away.

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

I traded for this with a fella on GW He sent cuttings that had a couple of seed pods. It's the same guy I got Camille from. I questioned his Rosa Traum... he said it came from LBJ... BUT... the blooms were definately pink. He's one of the few & only people that got his order from LBJ.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Congrats on everything. I hope it is the real RT. Mine was one of the white ones.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Poppy, That's great! I hope you get many more seedlings to come up.

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

With all the empty seed scare - I planted all the ones I had. These white ones where planted a few weeks ago tho - maybe it was a month ago. I wanted to wait but I couldn't help myself. I can just imagine how this place will look in March! I'm sooooo glad the family Christmas gathering isn't here this year! I'm not gonna have room to put up a tree ;)

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

I scattered a bunch of immature seeds on the momma's pots, hoping something comes up!

Ellicott City, MD(Zone 7a)

Congratulations Poppysue! I hope you have LOTS of seeds that grow into baby Rosa Traum x Camille Brugs!!

How long did it take and would you mind explaining your techniques for successful seed germination? I haven't been successful with seeds. Better luck rooting cuttings.

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

I had lots of seed germinate last year Shirley. I started out soaking and peeling them but got lazy and ended up just planting most of them. If you can give them bottom heat I think it helps. Some seeds just sprout quicker than others. Be patient and you'll get some going.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

here's some info that might help Shirley

Hey tiG - did Tonny write that? Isn't Ida his arborea hybrid? It says aurea above the picture??..... Or did I miss something?

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

They are his pictures, I think Shirley wrote that. CRC here.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I wrote the article, but not the description of the picture. I didn't have any picture when I wrote the article.

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

Hehehe!! Hope I didn't start anything :) I just happened to notice it. Nice job on the article Shirley. It's very easy to understand for newbies - like me. It's pretty neat... the group effort that's gone into the BGI site. Every one has done a great job.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Ida is definitely Tonny's arborea. We will get it changed, or I should say that tiG will. She has done all the work setting up the site and I, for one, think she has done a great job.

Thanks Sue. I think we all tried to write so everyone could understand what we were trying to say. Sometimes I have a problem even putting words together, so I lucked out on this one I guess. :-)

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

some things are easy:) and thanks for the compliment

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

Hey tiG - I just clicked into BGI and it was all mumbo-jumbled. Sumthin's not working right....

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Maybe she is doing some updates or moving stuff around. Does look a little strange, doesn't it?

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

oh heavens. leaving to go out, which link, everything was working this morning.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

its just the forum, and that's dave's dept. will write him

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

It's the home page - and it seems to be on all the pages I click to from there. I can see the forums way at the bottom of the pages - after all the hypertext jumble.

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

Maybe it is just the forums - the articles pages seem to be coming up okay.

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

Sue . . hope you get something wonderful from these seeds.

Good luck with your cross. Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Sarasota, FL(Zone 9a)

Great article and photos to go with it. Easily understandable reading. I sure wish I read it before I planted my first brug seeds. Do you have any others that would be useful to us newbies? Thanks for sharing, :-)

PoppySue,
Don`t worry about tiny seedlings. They will soon take on both in weight and gain size. :) Last December I grrew out some of Horticult7`s sanguinea seeds and half of them was very small, when they emerged. A few weeks later, they was as large as any other seedlings.
btw. I remember, that I once posted, that these seeds gave bad plants, slow growing plants and that was the case for my plants. After I received a few of these seedlings this summer I have revised my opinion on these seeds in general. Still the plants do not grow fast as Liz sanguinea crosses, but they grow. I think one of the reasons could be, because its not a hybrid. If the memory not fail a man as it should his agae, Horticult7 mentioned, that her seeds were either a sanguinea x x candida double white cross or it was a self fertile sanguinea. If it turn out to be the last one, that is right, then I will keep it even if I have to wait ten years to see flowers. *lol* I have some work coming with Brugmansias, where I will need wildplants and if this sanguinea is self fertile it must be wild as Suzi Quartro. :)

tiG, no I would not have your head for that. I would rather come and serve you some warm chocolade and your favorites candy, when you sit up late and work with the website. You have done such great work with it and viewing it over I know, how many hours, that it must have taken you.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

awww, that's so sweet!!! Dave, the magic man, fixed the forum for us, thank you dave!!!
many more late hours to come, we have pictures pouring in, and the galleries will be full by Christmas!
