Little worms in water

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

My sister gave me some Maya cuttings about a month ago. I have them in water, and have been watching them pretty closely. I just got my first root on one cutting, and when I was looking at it, I found some little worms in the water. They're dark, about 1/4" to 1/2" long, and about as wide as a pencil mark, swimming around in the water. WHAT ARE THEY? I didn't see them until just now, and I've been checking the water every couple of days at least.

That what it happened to me a while ago. It killed the brug cutting!!!! I found the maggot on it and I threw it away.

Did you change your water every couple of days?? This is a must.

Sounds like the beginning of a bunch of mosquitoes.

I have a ? for this mind meeting, I am getting ready to change my water,Do I need to let the water set 24hrs ? I was wondering if the chlorine from city water will have any effect? I too thought of skeeters above.

rd, I have city water, and I don't let it sit. If I did, I'd never get anything done!! LOL!

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

I have to truck it downstairs,so it would not be too much more to load it up day before,I think it might help it come up to a better room temp for my little nubbins, CC bet your still dancin!

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

I do use room temp water.

I use warm water...change every day. Had a rooted brug, going downhill. Dug it and washed roots with well water, put in jar of water under lights, these long white worms came out, off the roots and were swimming in the water, put didwashing liquid,(drop), in the water, killed them, but plant didn't make it either. It was either the soap, or worms that did it in.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

That doesn't sound good. Now I'm going to have to be watching for dying brugs with white worm in the roots. Wonder what kind of worm that is?

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

I haven't changed the water every day, but at least a couple of times a week. It's odd that they would show up now. I got the first cuttings a little over a month ago, but Julie gave me some more when she brought the plant inside two weeks ago. I guess the eggs were on those. I immediately put fresh water in another container and switched the cuttings to it, but didn't dump out the water in the old one so I could describe it to y'all. It DOES look like skeeters! Whew. I was afraid of some nasty brug-eating creature.

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

The Dreaded Brug Muncher!I hate skeeters too!

Sounds like skeeters to me too. Living in the deep south we have skeeters 12 months out of the year unless we get a super cold winter. I have to spray in the GH just to keep them at bay.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Mine were NOT skeeters, they were long white worms, going in and out of the roots, so eggs were down in the root, maybe from the nursery, it never grew or did well from the time I received it and potted it up.
