Wanted Indian Paint Brush

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

If you have some to trade let me know. I will see if I have anything you would like.

Kingston, OK(Zone 7a)

They are native here but very hard to get seeds. One of the most expensive wild seeds to buy. Come spring I can make an effort to get you some, but will take time.

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

Hey, TA, can you tell me how to collect them? We also have them growing wild, but I have never noticed any seed. Where are they, and when should I collect them? I have a number of wildflower seed, but never this one, and now I feel challenged.

Kingston, OK(Zone 7a)

Best way is pull some wild ones In middle of their growth and spread them where you want them.
To collect seeds you have to put something under them to catch them. Only drop one or two seeds at a time and small. The way I found out was put one in a pot and set it in a window. Put white napkin under it and waited.

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

I know Carroll Abbott collected seed from this wildflower, probably in the mid 70s or early 80s, but never actually saw it being done. He sold them cheap, but he was a different breed of cat, loved preserving and promoting wildflowers. I wish I had lived in Kerrville when he was still with us, maybe I could have learned something from him.

Grove City, OH(Zone 6a)

Honiebee, I have seed if you mean the Tovara (Painter's Palette) (uh-oh -- only enough for 3 trades! really! )

"down the Shore", NJ(Zone 7a)

I think the Indian Paint Brush HoniBee is looking for is a wildflower called Castilleja coccinea. It is rather beautiful, but seems to be difficult to obtain seeds. Hope someone can help.
