Holy Cow!! That is some EE mama you have there. Looks like from the strain you are putting on your hands that this baby didn't want to be born or at least separated from the mamma. :-)

Kingston, OK(Zone 7a)

What you feeding them ?? Hadacall

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Compost,they seem to like it.

Kingston, OK(Zone 7a)

I got two orders from the CO OP from Cala. Hope mine grow up to be like that. Right now got them under lights hoping to keep them alive until spring.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I got some from Cala too and they looked so good. Found some mites on them last week. Didn't know mites would bother them. Now I'm watching everything I have growing in the house. Can't be too safe I guess.

Doc, how old is that mother plant anyway? Is this where mine came from too? I really like this ear.

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Tg5,Here's a pic of my friend Madjack,He likes to bring his in for winter,I like to keep mine in bulb form, like the one on the newspaper,The "deer in the head lights" on Jack, comes from the pruning we gave these two bring them in,note the leaves,I told him to turn that ceiling fan off.LOL

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Break time,I'll clue you in on Madjack,He swears by Miracle Gro,He is a good friend of mine that has spent the better part of his life as an Ironworker, never had much to do with plants till he saw my big EEs,He talked me out of a couple babies and was hooked on them,he would proudly tell all, every new growth,Yep!they"re up to my knee he would tell all! Next week,Yep!they're up to my waist,Well ole Jack had to go south for a couple weeks and was so worried about his Es that he made me and his boss promise to go over and water.I assured him that all he needed to do,was water before he left and give them a little shot of Miracle gro. I talked with his boss and we decided to get Jack. While he was gone we dug up his babies and replaced them with the two you see behind him, when he returned,he was so amazed at how they grew!Boy that Miracle Gro!

Kingston, OK(Zone 7a)

Thats a good one. I like it. Did he get mad when your wanted them back?? He He

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Jack's agood sport,I gave his babies back, let him keep the big ones,I have too many as is,Maybe next year I'll put in regular calocasias' and tell him they're wilting,I can't keep him out of my compost, and he won't start his own pile, He tried for 3yrs to get "Yard of the month" finally said he would make his own sign if he didn't get it,He was gone on vacation when he finalily got it,took the liberty to steal the sign,He came home and sign was in his DDs yard

Kingston, OK(Zone 7a)

If you keep this up he might live up to his handle MadJack.

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Thanks Brugnanny,I really love the big EEs,

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Boy, you are one ornery guy Doc. You guys must be really good friends. When you come up here, I don't want to see my babies disappear unless they are replaced with the size I see in this picture. :-) Have your seeds picked. Will try to mail them tomorrow.

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Thanks S, I'm setting up more lights today

OC, CA & Twin Lakes , IA(Zone 4b)

Ooh! ? If he is a boy, does he need a girl to keep him company? What to name him? Upright EE! Wow!

Slow to post back to you - A little jetlagged.

Good to be in CA. The day I left Iowa - drove in beautiful snowstorm to get to the airport. Wanted to just stay home by the fire with some hot cocoa and watch it come down!
But . . .got here and am enjoying sitting in the sun for a few hours.

Thank you so much, Root!
Photos are saved for baby's album.

Will be back in Iowa by Wed night.

Morning Arlene,Bet you are enjoying the sun! got sun here ,just no warmth to go with it!Brrr, Got lots of little cousins here,to make sure your baby ain't lonely,Hope DH hasn't torn up all that peasoup already, travel safe my friend!

OC, CA & Twin Lakes , IA(Zone 4b)

Root,
Don't forget DH has a big pot of gumbo too! He can afford to get snowed in for at least a week and won't starve.

Went to my favorite nursery today. Saw many plants Person to Person that have been mentioned on this website. Nurseries in Iowa only have Christmas poinsettias this time of year!

Took some cuttings off a favorite geranium in the CA garden - will try to root them in Iowa.
Weather beautiful here (as always)

Arlene,

Soak up some of that warm CA air for me while you are there. Sounds like a great way to spend a few days. Have fun.

OC, CA & Twin Lakes , IA(Zone 4b)

Oh, thanks, Brugie!

Just leaving right now to go out to dinner with my DD! Still love the quality time with the children!
While I'm soaking up the warm for for ya I'll eat some seafood for you too! (does that me I get two servings? LOL)

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Which part of California are you in Arlene?

OC, CA & Twin Lakes , IA(Zone 4b)

Kell,

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I am in the north! I hear there are huge brugs in So. Ca.

OC, CA & Twin Lakes , IA(Zone 4b)

With the climate - got to be great brugs in CA, Kell;
but in 26 years of living here - never noticed; didn't even know what they were til Dave's Garden; In So Cal just went to the garden center and bought small plants - didn't even know names - whenever we wanted some color or a special event was being planned at the house.

Now, I come here and "reverently" walk through the nursury reading the names (oh, yes read about THAT one on Dave's Garden! Oh, there's another one - saw that on Dave's. Wow! nice to meet them in person!)

Of course the Master Gardening class this fall really stressed the importance of knowing the official names!

Am making lists of fantastic specialty nursuries in this area to visit and just browse!

This is all so interesting . . . as well as a new challenge!

Nice thing is, getting to garden in both zones (have to convince the daughter or gardener to give a little care to things)

Just bought a papyrus (bush? Tree?) that will go in the CA property; a little worried about it being invasive so will break out the bottom of the pot and leave the sides til we know.

What a quandry! - begging things to grow in Iowa and threatening them with a machete in CA! HaHa!
(Does that make me a multi-zone gardener?!)

. . . Life is good

arlene

(and again, thanks to Dave for this site with good people inspiring me to learn to be a good gardener)

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Chef you sound like you are having a great time,Papy is one of my favs here, little pain in butt to overwinter for me,but I love it just the same,,

OC, CA & Twin Lakes , IA(Zone 4b)

Root, love them so much!! When you have time, post a picture of yours. Have been trying to figure out how to get one to Iowa!

Could also use tips on how you care for it back there; assume you keep it potted all the time.

Dropped digital camera and it is being repaired; if they get it done before going back to Iowa, will take a picture of the one I bought for here; otherwise will have to wait til January when I come back and take a pic then.

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

OK Arlene,I'm getting ready to get a new camera, Don't get too much sun,I know your sitting out there in a skimpy bikini,an we're all freezin our butts off lol

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Arlene, when you are on vacation, you can eat anything your little ole heart desires. Enjoy the seafood. I haven't had seafood in CA since 1976. Then we ate at the Fisherman's Warf. Very good lobster.
