HELP!! My new CD-R software can't read my cd's...

I have thousands of pictures on cd-rw's, burned with Adaptec. It quit working, so I got a new cd-rw, it came with Nero software. Now I can't open any of the cd-rw's I previously burned. I had not closed any of them, I used them like floppies, adding a hundred pics, then a couple of weeks later, adding another 100 pics.
Is there a fix for this?
Running Windows ME.
