Is this the persimmon that is still firm when ripe?
I think so. They were lying around for some time and I was waiting for them to get softer, then my clever DW tossed them out. :~(
I tasted one of these back in the '60's or early '70's
and have been looking for them since. I thought it was a "winner"! It had a crisp texture and good flavor.
Have you asked your local greengrocer? If they grow here in CA, they also grow in AZ.
Ulrich, I was able to purchase 5 of these persimmons last week in Phoenix. Delicious!! (But not one had a seed. Weeping here!!)
Glad to hear that. Time to plant a tree.
Merry Christmas to all.
They are sometimes available here too, I like them, but when they're too ripe, they get too juicy... :}
Hi,
I live in northern Indiana and was wondering if Diospyros kaki is hardy to zone 5? I have found 2 names online: D. kaki & D. japonica, are they the same, if not what are the differences, and how hardy are they?
I've had a very hard time finding any, does anyone have any for trade, and are seeds difficult to germinate... if not how should I do so if I acquire some seeds? I would rather have rooted cuttings or seedlings though.
Please reply to me by e-mail should I not be able to find this page again. My e-mail is: greenthumbs777@yahoo.com
Thanks.
Bye for now,
Indy
