declawing question

Victoria, TX(Zone 9b)

Furball's appointment has been made - we're having her front claws removed Wednesday. She will spend Wed-Fri at the vet under supervision, then she'll come home with me.

Have any of you gone through this operation with your cat? How did you keep them safe for the first few days post-surgery? Are there special things I can do for her to keep her calm and relaxed while she heals? I've purchased "yesterday's news" for her litter, and plan to keep her contained in my bedroom, free from most of the apartment "dangers" like plants and super high places. Is there more I can do before and even after she comes home?

Thanks in advance,
-Jennifer and Furball

Note: Every website I try to look at explains the procedure as inhumane, gruesome, etc. I need helpful information, not a site that accuses me of torturing my furbaby. Furball will spend her life as an indoor cat, and trimming her claws has almost always been a very traumatic incident. Only when she was very little could I do it with minor troubles. For her last trip, it took myself and two technicians at PetSmart over 20 minutes just to trim the front paws. Neither Furball or myself need that sort of trauma every week or two - it's not worth it. Declawing is the best solution for us.
