Dave, when Cala gave you a pod last year and it seems you said it took 4-6 weeks to ripen. Di you let the pod dry and shrivel before you planted? the DH helped me move large brug pots today, and knocked off a 14 inch pod of kyle's pink. i know it isn't ready. i know people have said to plant and see, but it seems like you let it dry after it was picked??
kyle's pink pod and question for dave
Enquiring minds want to know, what was it crossed with? I hate to see a pod that falls a bit too early. I tried putting the pod in water every few hours before to no avail and I have also left a pod in water a bit too long. The time I left it in water too long it turned to mush. Who knows though, perhaps some more experimenting needs to be done. I would love to learn more along these lines if Dave or anyone else has any input.
Brugman, this one was crossed by moth. i figured anything kyles pink made was worth growing out. the seeds have sat here about 15 hours, of course i had to open, and i'm goiong to plant them to see. they had those tan places in the middle of the seeds when i picked them.
it was cold last night, knocked down some stuff hadn't been hurt before, was around 32 for i believe 5-6 hours here. don't think it hurt in fat seed pods, covered just a few of those outside. i have 40-50 pounds of brug cuttings in my house, and pods off E9 and pink beauty/rosamond, moth pollinated in water in the kitchen. still have kyles pink X pink beauty/rosamond on the mom outside, covered, that is very close to ripening.
my goal is to get these babies to bloom earlier next year so i can get some good ripe seed pods, and blooms much earlier in the spring.
Arlene,
You sound as bad as me. I have cuttings in every bucket I have......I do have someone coming by on Sunday to pick some of them up.
