Does it take these a little longer to root? I have some E. Pink rooting and it seems like they are taking much longer than anything. More of these seem to belly up too. The Dr. Seuss look like a mini jungle in my office.
Versi's?
could be lots of things, dr suess and frosty are so easy, one reason there are so many. when i root in the summer the first roots grow as soon as i stick them, all kinds. # of leaves on cuttings can make a difference, and lots of other things too. i haven't rooted enough EP to know.
I left quite a few leaves on some and others not, the ones in vermiculite 2 out of 10 look good, the water ones I have thrown about 3 away. The leaves didn't seen to make a differance. The others V. orange, V. abla have done good. I am glad you are feeling better. I hope you are not overdoing.....
thanks, Tracey, i do feel better. another freeze tonight, i am out to save brugs!! a couple to dig up, some to take cuttings... my brug patch is quite sad looking, except the ones near the oak tree branches. have a happy day today!
You too! Save the brug's! Now that should be the forum's Motto.
Tracey ,I always trim off all leaves dow to two of them(leaves)This leaves less area for water loss and gives the cutting more chance to get roots going. If in water I put the cuttings in a warm but sunny window too.At work I root these in vermiculite under mist system.
Hi Tracey, I've found that EP cuttings are a little more sensitive to overwatering than most of the other common hybrids! And because they prefer a dryer rooting medium, they take a little longer to get going too.

I'm glad to hear this as I've had problems with mine too. Okay, smack my hand if I try to water those EP cuttings again. :-)
I've found Ecuador pink versicolor cuttings rot a bit easy for me as well. I try to select easy rooting hybrids that bloom with in the first year to breed with. Of course if they don't set seed easily then I must confess I get a bit too impatient sometimes. I've tossed out some very nice looking hybrids that failed to put out seedpods in their first year. Ecuador pink has really thrown out some beauties though so I'd definitly say she was worth having even though she is a bit of a slow grower in my experience.
Hi Eric, I've got an EP X I. Rosea pod developing nicely! Can't wait to grow those seeds out next year!
