you've done a lot of work this year!!! can' wait to see what your seeds turn out to be.

New Iberia, LA(Zone 9a)

TiG.. Yes I have done a lot of work.. and Now I have more to plant.. brug seeds that I got in last summer. Most are are sprout more brugs........to love and care... and share..

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Sure glad you are saving your babies in the temporary greenhouse so you can have a lot more enjoyment from them this year. You did a good job on that little greenhouse.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

It looks great!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

great idea Mini, and even easier than the hoop house we made. Have you done this before? how many mm is that plastic? do you use a heater? I am considering buying some sort of light for mine, I am so paranoid that my plant will still get frostbite.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Kell, you could try one of those clip on shop light things and put a heat bulb in it. Don't know how cold you are planning for, but I'd bet it would help some and be cheap too.

New Iberia, LA(Zone 9a)

no heater.. just the shop lights things that hanging under there..

Mini,
that is a great idea for a temp gh...let us know how well it works.

New Iberia, LA(Zone 9a)

Glory..yes I will let you all know how it work.. Last year I had small temp green house and it worked! Now I have big temp. greenhouse but still need bigger one! Everything's crowd in there. I put plenty of pine straws on ground and mulch it around pots to keep it from getting too cold and keep it moisture.. The cutting brugs are happy in there and they grow so fast in the greenhouse which it keep warm air in there.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Hope your brugs made it through the night okay.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Nice job Mini. I wish I could get away with something like that. You're so lucky to live in a warm climate. The furnace in my GH has been running non stop all week. It was 8 degrees outside this morning when I woke up.

Snow,
That is "COLD". How much does your gas bill run per month to heat your greenhouse..if you don't mind me asking?
We still haven't had a freeze here. I turned the heat on in my gh last night because it was supposed to get down to 32 but it only made it to 37º.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Glory, this is the first year keeping it open all winter.I had a second propane tank brought in because the one tank had to be filled about every two weeks last year in March.I figure if we don't get too many days of below 0 temps it will cost about 300.00 a month to heat it.Expensive hobby I've picked. LOL

Monroe, WI(Zone 4b)

I am hoping that it won't cost a king's ransom to heat mine this year. With it being so big, I know it will need heat, but we have very good insulation on the north wall and ceiling. When the sun is out heater doesn't run at all, but as soon as the sun gets past the end of the south wall, it gets cool in there. I guess all I can do is keep my fingers crossed that all will be well. :>)

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

SO Brugie, I should run an outdoor extension from my house outside outlet across the yard and into the greenhouse. stick a post of some sort in htere and hang a light fixture? they have those metal cane like posts (I think they call them Shepard's posts)at HD that I think you are supposed to hang hanging plant from. would that work?what about all that moisture in there? the sides of the plastic drip water. and some drops from the ceiling.
thanks

Kell,
Does it freeze at you house?

Here is a picture of my GH...I heat it with a propane tank that has a little heater attached to the top....this picture was taken about 4 years ago right after Ron built it....now it has so may plants in it you can hardly get in it. LOL

Glory I showed my husband your greenhouse--& you need to get Ron to draw up the plans for it--So I can get started on mine...grin LOL

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Glory, I love your GH. Ron did a beautiful job. Is it covered with poly film or are they panels?

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

It can Glory. last year it did not and my petunias lived to tell about it the next summer! However it can with little warning. Usually it does not last long, but I remember one year it lasted a few days and even my banana tree which was huge died!
I was trying to figure it all out and found this:
http://ggweather.com/climate/upper_filters_t.htm
and
http://ggweather.com/climate/upper_filters_d.htm

looks like lately it has gotten warmer!
You GH is to die for............ I will not show my DH, it puts his hoop house to shame!! LOL! I think a propane heater would be overkill. But if I could get my DH to put one in, I would. I am still afraid of a light out there for fear I will get eletrocuted. LOL

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

I'd like the plans for that one too,its awesome

Gorgeous GH Gloria. Lucky girl.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Kell, most greenhouses are full of moisture. The water runs down the sides of mine. Mine usually runs about 70% humidity. I'm sure a shephards hook would work fine and if you get the light I'm talking about, the cover would protect the bulb from having water drip on it. Just check them out at a HD or Lowes, and you can find one that will work okay. I used electric heaters in mine. The kind that work off a thermostat. You could use something like that too and if you are worried about the moisture, lay a metal bucket on the floor and set the heater inside it toward the front so it can still get air around it. You might have to put a piece of wood under the heater though so the automatic dump over thing will still work.

I don't think there are any written plans for the GH. The gh is poly film...it's been on there now for 4 year with a 60% shade cloth over it.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I think I will get the light you say Brugie, start there and work my way up to a heater.............
thanks

New Iberia, LA(Zone 9a)

It's COLD!!! It is 34's now.. I see white things all around on ground.. It is our first FROST!! I am going to check in GH to see how they hold..

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

let us know Mini!!

We got hit with frost this morning...it was 32º here and frost everywhere....the Brugs outside are now mush. Never fear the greenhouse stayed at 42º and all is well.....we'll have Brug for next season!!!!!!!!

Gloria, here on the Pacific West Coast, I still have not had a hard frost. I've had winds that have defoliated most of the brugs in the ground but they're putting out new leaves. I've got buds on some too but they're slow in opening as it isn't hot out. Daytime temps are about 10 C.

New Iberia, LA(Zone 9a)

Kell.. I just went and turned the lights off. I checked my GH and when I opened and it is hot and moisture in there. Sun's up. I just watered them. Few of them was wilt.. need water!!! In GH, I would wear my swimsuit lol. Tonight, I will not turn the lights on. Just close up the GH. One of Brug in ground, it had frost on it and now one of it bloom! Weird? huh.. I am wearing T shirt and short. it is warm outside right now..

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

You lucky gals in the south. It hasn't gone above 25 here all day and is snowing like crazy.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

And in Iowa we are fairly warm for this time of the year, but the winds are horrible. Some places having 40+ mph winds. They are saying it could even be worse tomorrow morning when the cold front passes through. I'm so disgusted with winter already and it isn't even here.

Sorry to say Brugie but the sun is shining here, temp. is about 12 Celcius. DH is pruning his roses a bit. There must be 50 or more blooming still.

I'm waiting for Dennis Taylor to get here from Vancouver to visit.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Oh Jeanne, I've just got to get Jim talked into moving. I think we are too old to move away from family to be truthful, but it would be so nice to have flowers most of the year. At the least we could move into a house that I could have a glass room attached to. Couldn't keep them all big, but maybe a few that would bloom for me and make me happy. I'd love to be able to grow roses like your DH does. Beautiful things and they smell so good too. Have a great time with your company. Does Dennis visit this brug forum? I've seen someone called Dennis on here, but have to admit that I'm not good with names. We were right around the same temp late morning, but the wind is bringing in some bad stuff. I'm afraid that winter is coming whether I want it to or not.
