I promised Datura seeds to people at DG & I don't think their ready--It might freeze tonight & tommorrow--will it help to wrap the plants with row covers?
freeze protection
Can't hurt.
Oh yeah it's raining too---Could be worse--add in 40-50 mph winds.
Ouch indeed, you could try pulling up one or two plants and bringing them inside, but I have to admit I have not caught the weather channel. Perhaps you could cover a few plants and bring one or two inside? Just to be on the safe side.
I think the time it will actually be freezing will be very short, although it could be enough to do a lot of damage to a new bud. I bet your idea of covering them is your best chance. If they're close enough together, use my poor woman's greenhouse: Tape together enough clear plastic (that roll stuff) to form a canopy of sorts, supported by ladders, swing sets, anything you can haul into the area, and then place a 100 watt bulb in the tent, preferably ground level so the heat will gradually rise during the night as the temps drop. (Start early!) I winter over numerous plants like that every year. Well, until this year. Can't do the work, and nobody else understands the concept, they say.
Great Idea Aimee...give it a try DR.
I have a huge roll of row cover--and I'm on a hill. I have to clamp the row cover to it's self to keep it from blowing off. Out comes the army wet weather gear--Yippee! flashback!

Lol,
Is everyone on this forum Army or a veteran of the Army? Just don't start up with the cadences. Please.
Brugman,
Not me....I was never in the military but felt just like it since DH worked for the Department of Defense.
Did my stint in the Marines about a hundred years ago.
Were the marines around then....lolol
Yep.I helped them start up.
DR..Have you got those Daturas cover yet? The cold weather is acoming.
JT...come one you're not that old.
Gloria,if you look carefully, the next time you see the movie "Ten Commandments"you can catch a glimpse of me, following Moses, dragging a large Brugmansia across the Red Sea.
roflol!!! I have no affiliation with any branch of service except my sincere thanks for all they do. and a dear friend currently serving. and another who served with Moses.
JT, I don't know what you look like, but the vision I have in my head of you dragging that brug is hilarious.
JT is a very nice looking man! and Ann is lovely
Maybe we need to see a picture online. Seems like I might have seen one when you had the swap, but I don't remember for sure. I know he wasn't dragging a brug across water though.
wow, I'd forgotten all about those pictures. that sure brought back some memories. http://davesgarden.com/ej/viewentry.php?rid=13221
JT,
Now, Now...I don't remember you being there when we crossed the Red Sea.
Yeah! I didn't get a freeze! I was freaking out! Last year we didn't get one until the end of March! It's so warm I might put on my bikini and take a dip... Glory get out your suit!
Been wondering how that worked out for you, thought I saw you fly by that night, headin over Kansas onto Oz.looked like you had a good grip on that plastic.
DR,
Suit...girl that would really be a sight to behold me in a swim suit.....I'd look better wearing a trash bag!!!!!
