Seed size?

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

These are from two different pods that came off the same plant, both pods were the same size, both were ripe and both dried for the same length of time. The bigger seeds were a DrD x v. Peach cross and the small seeds were a DrD x EP cross.I also have seeds from a Jean Pasko x EP cross that are the tiniest seeds I've ever seen. Can anyone tell me why the crosses I made using EP are all producing small seeds?

I sure can't answer, but that is one nice bunch of seeds. I had some from one plant that were very tiny too. I think they were from the Isabella X Butterfly plant that I named Strawberry Creme.

I am no help either. Did one have alot more than the other?

Snow:
aureas have the biggest seeds.
suavoleens and versicolor have very small seeds.

seeds of hybrids can have all sizes. Sometimes you can recognize whether there is much aurea or versicolor in a candida for examble.
Small seeds have more versicolor in itself and large seeds more aurea.

Yeah...what he said!!!LOL Mine vary all the time depending on parentage.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Does this mean that EP carries strong versicolor genes since all my crosses with EP produce small seeds?

Snow,
when EP is Ecuador pink. You think right!!!

( Hope I´ve used the right words...)

you did Ludger:)

I understand now and will know with future pods that the small seeds are normal. Thanks Kyle and Ludger for your help.

Big seeds are usually the exception....And EP is a versicolor.Just a wild form of it.A natural Ver hybrid.

How many acres do you have Terry? Looks like that greenhouse will be full of babies very soon. You guys are going to have to bring in a backhoe to dig out the rocks so you will have more room to grow these new ones. Are you snow covered now? Still just brown here. Not wishing for snow because I'm sure we will get it sooner or later.

We're snow covered Shirley. Only about 3" but more on the way tomorrow night and Friday.
If we dug all the rocks out we'd have just a huge hole left. There's more rocks than dirt. LOL

Wow, Snow you have been busy, looks like you are addicted to E.P. too. I have found this one to be breath taking when in bloom, but I have to admit that V. Orange is a close second. I am glad you got some answers here.

I like them both, but VO has such wonderful fragrance and makes a nice patio plant also. Have a great day. I'm headed to the kitchen again.
