how to save pods on trees planted in the yard

Rose Hill, NC(Zone 8a)

On my big trees (that get to turn to mush in the winter) I cut the limb off just above the pod and try to get a good
3 ft. of the limb under the pod. I place this "large cutting" in water (small trash can works great). strip all leaves off also.
Keep it warm and give all the light one can. Don't let to many leaves start growing if crowded. Keep the water changed
and fresh.
I have at least 100 this way now(from the stock plants) and 60+ pods off my "Nina Lane" tree. It worked great last winter.

Do you loose any or many pods? Can you post a pic of your "Nina Lane" tree?

Larry, do the pods have to be fully developed before this will work? could i leave them outside and cover in case of frost? thanks so much for posting.

"Nina Lane" is the one that had to 2 double blooms this spring; that Tonny was so good to post for me. She will set pods like crazy. She is related to "Betty Marshall" I am sure but not quite the same.
White suaveolens single bloom. When she was 2 she had 480+ blooms that summer and 63 pods

Tonny will soon be getting most of the seeds from the 2 pods that were double. Lets keep our fingers crossed the sibling to sibling cross will produce a double plant??

Tonny is her pic still around in your PC??

The more mature the pod the more likely they will finish maturing. Of the ones I did last year 95% matured

Great timing for your post. I cut off 2 pods from my DW in error. I was cutting a peice off for Owen and did it in the dark. How stupid is that??
Unfortunately I do not have much of a limb. It has been doing fine all week in water outside. Do you think if I put it in the hoop house where it is very wet but warmer and lighter I may have better luck in maturing these?
thanks
