I'm just wondering what your thoughts are on rooting hormones and the different formulations (gel or powder).
Until recently I rooted everything naturally with only bottom heat. I did an experiment with sangs, and there was no difference with/without IBA. Do some species find hormones beneficial where others don't need it?
Thanks- Dennis
Rooting hormones
Dennis, i am not an expert, i usually do not use the rooting stuff on anything. i am though trying it on very hard to root brugs just to try to keep them from rotting. Ludger said you can put charcoal, like the briquets you cook with i think, on the cut end to help prevent this problem. i have rooted several hundred brug cuttins i think. killed a bunch too. i always forget to adjust for changes in my climate.
i do use the schultz transplant plus sometimes when they start leafing to give them a boost, or if a cutting is not growing much to see what will happen.
Hi Dennis,
I've used rooting hormones on some, but most of mine are just rooted in soil or water. I don't see any difference. I believe that Cala or tiG may have said something about the rooting hormones being very effective when using it on the tiny side shoots. I'm no expert either. Just grow them because of their beauty.
Arlene, thanks I had read something about charcoal but hadn't looked into it. I will have to try that. Dennis
I just bought that 3 pack from Charlie's greenhouse. I want to try the strong one on my Iochromas that so many want. They are being obstinate with my usual rooting methods, and I do not want to disappoint so many people. I will let you know if I succeed with it.

Yes, Arlene, she is drivng me crazy. I think I have made a huge mistake letting her do what she wants because she is so sick. She now thinks it is a game to chase my fnigers as I type and is now trying to bite them! When I say NO to her, she screams at me!!! Oh Dear....... I hope your DH does not make the same mistakes with you while you are so sick..........
