I do not have a greenhouse - what I do have is a garden window in the kitchen. I want to winter over some Brugs, but the window gets chilly sooooooooooo I thought I would put a heating pad in there put a slab of marble over the top (and old cutting board it is large) then a foil tray - so water won't drip on it all. Then I will put plastic around the entire box save for the front part of the window. Any thoughts on this?? I also thought I might get grow light strips and put them on the top and the 2 sides of the window. Help!!
Do you think it will work?
'Sounds like you'll have a mini-greenhouse in no time! :-)
I've always wanted one of those garden windows,
but I have too much shade around the house.
Good luck with your project,
OD :-)
I'd just pick out a spot in the house to overwinter them, just set up some lights, start cuttings in the window.
I over wintered a bunch of them last year in a unused bedroom, northern exposure,no real heat either(not freezing though),they did fine
I guess that I am sounding like a neurotic about these brugs -- it is just that I am reading the forums here and at gardenweb and it seems people are a little neurotic about these plants- talking about all the pests etc that they have encounterd - I want them to make it thru the winter so much -- the ones available here are so expensive and when they become available the size leaves much to be desired.
They'll over winter fine. I overwintered mine last year at about 45*. But do as CC suggested, take some cuttings and you'll "back up" in case of problems. If no problems then you'll have more brugs.
