Leaf problems, lesson contd.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Here is a leaf that I noticed. I thought at first I knew what the problem was, but on further inspection, I found I was wrong and it was something else. I know what it is, I hope you can tell without having to touch. Should I spray?
Hint, the holes in the leaf hold a clue.

Is that caterpiller poo? LOL.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Another leaf problem. Is it serious? Do I have a virus? Bactria? Fungus or something else? I know what caused this, do you? Hint, Monika mentioned it a while back. Is it a cultural problem?

I don`t remember, what Monika said. Maybe she posted, while I was away. I had something looking like this on gelber engel and sanguinea several yers ago. They were in the GH. I watered heavily to keep them fresh, while the sun was up, but during the nights the air humidity was so high, that they couldn`t sweat out the extra water. The cells in the leaves started to grow and since get mushy and leaving these holes. In the stage, where they got mushy the cells started to get swollen and decomposed to a light green mass layering on the upper leaf surface covering, what later became holes.

Brugcrazy, I missed seeing your post. Yes, it's caterpillar poo. I just knew when I went in that it was the dreaded leaf spot. I was going over my inventory of fungicides and then I touched it. It moved!!! Little poo balls!!! With mold on them. Argh, I had to wash my hands because I played with caterpillar poo.

Cala, that was just a good guess. I don't have caterpillar poo here but I get slug trails. Just can't seem to get rid of them all. I think they hide in the pots come out at night. I found another one today.

Tonny, you are right!! The cells took up too much water and burst, then as they aged, they turned brown. You've got 10pts now too, you're gonna catch up with Jeanne.

Matthews, MO(Zone 6b)

That will teach you to let little old ladies play with rabbit poo! I wish I could have seen your face!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

How many points do I have to pay because I just learned something. Great pictures for explaining about the poo and the explosions.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Tracey, it was like "OMG, that's poo!!!" and I went and got the Dial soap!! Yes, the expression on my face would have been funny to see. At least I didn't smell of it. (does caterpillar poo smell?)
Brugie, you don't have to pay, but you have to teach the next class.

Matthews, MO(Zone 6b)

Hey, I'm not going to try it, you try it. Funny, that is the first thing most people when they stick their hands in something gross, smell it. You crack me up.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I'm not much of a teacher Cala. Prefer to just watch and learn. I'd have to teach how to wash with the Dial, I'm afraid.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

OK Brugie, you just be ready with the Dial and a towel when I'm teaching and we will do fine.

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

here Cala, chose ur pick. just click on each underlined recipe to find which one suits u the best ... http://www.happy-hour.net/bar/recipes/search/?q=mudslide

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Whew!! Didn't want to teach. Did that with 4 year olds for 17 years. Burned out!!

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Brugie, how do you drink those things??? I wouldn't be able to find the keyboard, let alone type, lol. Thanks MaVie, you sure are handy to have around!!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Drink slowly........very slowly!!

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

thanks Cala :). have not learned enough about brugs yet, but when it comes to food or drink, u can count on me.

yes, drink slowly like a Lady would, it won't hit u as bad, as when u slug it down LOL.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

OK, who has been watching me drink???

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL Cala............well at least you did not taste it!!

"I had to wash my hands because I played with caterpillar poo."

Kell, did you notice I won that one too.

Winning a "identifying poo contest" Umm.......... pretty sad.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

exactly my point Jeanne, you have to be cheating to win all of these. fess up!!! you must have seen this poo before?? maybe Cala has served it to you when you were visiting her and told you what you were eating!!! I hear caterpillar poo is a big appetizer in Tennessee.

You probably had a mealy bug pie there also!!!

you have to get up pretty early to fool me!!!

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Kell, how did you guess my secret garnish??? Don't be telling all my secrets.

Matthews, MO(Zone 6b)

Susie if you keep giving away all your secret recipes we will never get Kell to come over to play. Poor girl thinks we eat all sorts of yucky things. Kell if you come to my house I promise we will let you pick all your favorite things from any place that has take out..

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Actually I was hoping to have some squirming white grub stew! LOL Tracy!

Chipley, FL(Zone 8a)

Kell, you ought to see Susie pick them things right up with her fingers, just too gross.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

as long as she does not plop them into her mouth.....i would be able to watch!!!

Kingston, OK(Zone 7a)

Who has a drink that we can feed the caterpillar so we wonthave to mess with that poo?

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Dipel is a good drink for caterpillars, it's also called Bt.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Something GOOD, that would dry him up?

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Yep, Dipel causes them to not be able to digest their food, they quit eating immediately and die soon after. It's harmless to beneficials, but will kill all kinds of caterpillars including the monarchs and frittilaries, so be careful where you spray it. I think it stinks, others think it smells like butterscotch.

Co.Wicklow, Ireland(Zone 8b)

Boiled Milk & Bananas? LOL

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

More good stuff.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Unless you are the caterpillar Brugie!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Never thought about that.

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

Thank you for bringing this up Brugie! She sure knows her stuff!

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

I have no pity for caterpillars! It doesnt need many to cut back a brug within one night!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I had the wooly worms this year that were just as bad as those green nude worms. All worms are ugly to me and like you say, very destructive in a short amount of time.
