Time for a new brug lesson

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

I've been meaning to take the camera to work with me for a while and finally remembered to do it today. Here is the first "problem". I know the answer to what is wrong, do you?
Hint, there is a little spot right below and to the right of the Y. Do you know what it is?

Here is a closer view, maybe you can tell now. I was trying to hold the branch down, not get the sun in the camera and get the pic all at once without shaking the camera.

no, but there seems to be a little fly off to the left.

Is it mealybug?

Here is the second problem. I know what caused this "scar" on the trunk of this brug, do you. Hint, this is a small brug, about a 1 meter/yard tall, loaded at the top with branches, had about a hundred blooms at one time.

Arlene, you have good eyes. Brugcrazy you are right, you get 10 pts.

Looks like a branch got ripped off, torn off by weight.

weighted down with blooms? i thought mealy bugs were white.

Matthews, MO(Zone 6b)

I don't have a clue, bet your not suprized, Waiting??

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Arlene, the mealy bug is white, it's in the first and second pics, I needed a ladder, that brug had to be 10 ft tall and the mealy bug was right in the top!!

So what do I win? A case of something to get rid of mealybugs. I had them on my cacti. Got rid of most of the cacti. Poured gallons of alcohol on them on the clivia. The clivia got drunk and the mealybug is gone. I HATE mealybug.

Brugcrazy, I am using some restricted chemicals, had to show my applicators license to buy them, thought they were working, till I found this little guy. Well, that's a big improvement, there were enough of them at one time to carry off the plants, lol.
ps, I'd love to see a drunk mealybug!! With all his legs he'd be a hoot to watch walk!!

Forgot to tell you, the second problem was caused when my very top-heavy Eventide fell over. I staked it. I didn't have anything except a wooden stake, rough wood at that. I tied the trunk to the stake and didn't notice that the branches were rubbing the stake. In the terrible wind, the stake almost rubbed thru the limb. I retied it and let this heal. I cut off some of the top to lessen the weight.

I remember that. How many points do I have now?

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Looks like 20pts. You're winning. Guess I will have to see which prize to send you!!

Can I get points from the other thread too. "The caterpillar poo one"?

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Oh yeah, forgot about that. You've got 30pts now. The others will have to work hard to catch up.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Gosh, just got here and I love that plant. Mealy bug, scar and all. That is really a great umbrella on her.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I think Jeanne is cheating!! NO fair no fair!!!

Kell, I'm not cheating, just know my bugs. Had my fair share of them over the years. Plus I have a very good memory. I remember when that plant of hers toppled over. LOL.

Dripping Springs, TX

Teacher can I go to bed now? I can't stay awake for the lesson.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

New lessons will start promptly this afternoon(or evening). I'll be wracking my brain today to come up with a stumper. Jeanne, you have a very good memory, it will be hard to get one on you.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Bump!! Another lesson from Susie. Good stuff to know.
