Hi folks,
I have a couple of queries about propagation, please help.
When is the best time to plant Brug seeds, and in what should I plant them?
A) Can I plant them in peat? ... (on those expanding peat pellets)
B) Should I only plant them in fine earth to start them?
C) When is the best time to put them into the planting medium?
D) When watering these seeds, should they be wet, damp or just off being dry?
E) How long does it normally take before the seeds start showing any growth?
I've planted some seeds in fine earth, but don't seem to be having any luck. Am I just daft, or should they be mollycoddled every day?
Thank you all in advance :-X

Planting Brug Seeds
it looks like you have a good zone to live in. i can't answer your questions, cause i am an odd ball. did want to say though that my first maya seed is poking its head up, the seed head still attached, just noticed a few minutes ago. mine are all outside, but we've only been in the imd 30s so far. i stick them in pots with bigger brugs, or lots of seeds in one pot.
Wintermoor, I take an oblong pot, about 15cm deep, 30cm long and 15cm wide, fill within an inch of the top with potting soil.(I use Pro-Mix which is Canadian sphagnum peat, vermiculite, perlite, dolomite lime and a wetting agent) I sow the seeds loosely on top of the soil, I don't peel or soak, and then I cover the seeds with about a half inch of potting soil. I water them in, set on a heat mat set at 72ºF/22.2ºC and don't mess with them till they come up. When at least 75% are germinated, I take them off the heat mat and put in a 65ºF/18.3ºC(night time temp) greenhouse to grow on till spring. I am planting now, figure they should bloom next summer.
excellent instructions as always ms cala.....
Thanx Cala,
I'll start first thing tomorrow morning.
Excellent as always my Dear ;-)

Wintermoor, If you don't have a heat mat you can also put them on top of your refrigerator where it is warm. I keep mine a few feet from the woodstove and had very good luck last year. Of course a heating mat is the best but I don't own one.
first speaking in Celsius and now Cala speaking in centimeters..........LOL I am wild now!!!
Snow,
if SWMBO saw me putting anything to do with my plants in the kitchen, she would have a FIT!!!! ... lol
I'll just keep them down in my office with me.
Thanx for the tip tho.

Ah Wintermoor, but if you put them way back on the top maybe she won't see them unless she climbs up there to dust. ;)
SWMBO --- i gotta know what this stands for!
arlene, it's a doozy..."she who must be obeyed"
Wintermoor, you will do just fine with your seeds - I did mine inside last year, with out a heating mat, and had a cover over them, and some of them germinated in a matter of days, others a little longer. Although I did soak the seeds and peel the hard shell off, I imagine that hastened the germination, but from what i have heard, you can go either way.
If you dont have a dome for your container, I would cover it with plastic wrap, until they germinate, then remove.
Witnermoor - here are my seeds from last year at 50 days

Thank you Ladies,
I've got so much food for thought now that I'm in fear of getting fat ... lol
I've already put some in the dirt, as Cala suggested, but I'll try the other ways as well though.
Thanx for the tips, girls :-X
