Oh, KathyJo & MaryE, those stories are so funny yet tragic. Jack has heard some stories about hunters who didn't properly finish off the deer and were badly gored. However one of those hunters did kill the buck with his hunting knife before it was able to killed him. He spent several days in the hospital and had serious internal injuries. He had left his rifle laying on the ground just out of reach and was getting ready to slit the buck's throat when it revived. He says that now he stands ready to shoot again and kicks the deer several times to see if it is really dead or just stunned.
Speaking of deer, we dressed out one big buck Sunday evening with the help of friends who got to keep some of the meat in return for their help and 2 more yesterday. Monday I was exhausted and under doctor's orders to spend the day in bed(the shots he gave me made sure I slept the whole day and night). So far today we haven't gotten anymore. Shad and I still have burger to grind but I'm out of bags to put it in . On the other hand, we may have it made into summer sausage. I'm sure we have the 17# needed to make 25# of summer sausage. I'll check with Kris to see if she wants some made too.
The weather is so lovely here. Just right for working outside. And the sun is shining so brightly it is almost blinding.
GOD bless and keep each and every one of you.
