? on homemade miticide

I was looking waaaayyyy back on this forum and found a "recipe" for mite spray that read as follows 1 oz. sugar, 1 oz. 3% hydrogen peroxide and a few drops dish soap per quart of water. I tried it, seems to work great on the "livestock" on my brugs in the greenhouse. What I'm wondering is what is the purpose of the peroxide and sugar? And why is Murphy's Oil Soap the soap of choice among quite a few of the members here? I'm not gonna tamper with success at this point, just being a Curious George about it. I'm one of these people that always has to know "why". :>)

Anna, the murphy's oil soap has vegetable oil in it. a lot of recipes call for oil to help the solution stick. i think that is why i use murphy's instead of regular dish soap. if your recipe is working i would not change it. glad to see your recipe.

Anna, I saw that mite recipe earlier but haven't tried it. I'd already gotten out the expensive stuff to rid the Jungle House of mealy bugs before I saw it. Glad to know it works.

Hi Anna, all 4 of your double white cuttings took! One started to go bad from the top but since they were so tall, i just cut the top off and it survived. I have them in my hoop house now. I just want another week or so to make sure they are well rooted before I take them out of the dirt. I will have to check if you sent me your address............... hope you enjoy them! they are never out of bloom! greatin pots

Kell, I have all my brugs in pots. My soil isn't all that great, and if I have them in pots I can move them wherever they will look nice. Basically I am a very lazy person, and weeding and digging and shoveling is NOT a lazy person's job! Easier to just slide those big pots on my little hand truck and push them wherever I want them. :>)
