Thanks Arlene. I went back and looked at my HG, it's not like the picture Monika put up and doesn't cover the entire stem. I'm still taking a piece to the Dept of Ag, just will have to squeeze a trip in. I looked at the roots of the ones I dug up, they didn't have those lumps on them. Mine had pythium.

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

Arlene, your Butterfly is what quite a few of mine stems on various brugs look like.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Thanks for posting these pictures. I'm sure they will be a big help to many people. Those are some nasty looking roots. Had to run check Butterfly, and she is okay. Hope you get rid of this stuff.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Excellant pictures Arlene.

The Ag lady did not seem concerned about my stalk. she said she didn't think it was serious or it wouldn't have such pretty leaves on it (still perky 2 days later) and wouldn't have been flowering. Her mom has had one for 15 years in south florida, says the bark looks the same on the two. she is going to show it to a master gardener on friday who grows a lot of brugs, see what she says. she also told me that cork is completely cosmetic.

Dripping Springs, TX

Phew! That's a relief for you. We might have to start calling you "Typhoid Arlene"....Grin.. LOL (I'm glad you showed/told us about the cork)

maybe i could be queen of disease?

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Arlene, I could give you a run for your money on that one too, lol. Well, no guess I'd be the Bug Queen, I've had some of every plant eating insect there is this year!! Didn't know there were so many different caterpillars and mites and plant loving bugs around!!

Thanks for posting this again Arlene. Whew! That's not what my plant has. Ludger said it's normal this time of year so I will stop worrying. Thanks again.
