How do you know when to remove seed pods. They are well over 4 weeks on the plant and I am fixing to have to cut them all back. They are still green, do they ever dry and turn brown or just stay green.
Thanks

When to remove seed pods?
you have MONTHS to wait for the pods, the earliest I think I've heard was 2 1/2 or 3 months,I've had one on there since June and its still not ready.
When the little stem on the pod turns yellow it usually is time to pick. cc is right. some will be ready in 2-3 months but some take much longer. The earliest pod I picked was 3 mo. old and I still have some not ripe that have been on since June.
Snow, what kinds take longer? rosamond, dr suess and isabella seem to take right at exactly three months. kyle's pink pod is 12-13 weeks and is turning yellow. i wonder if the florida sunshine makes mine ripen faster.
That's what I was afraid of. Guess I'm gonna loose these this year. My brugs are just too big to pot and move in.
Cajun, cala succcessfully rooted some stalks with pods on them last year, worth a try, i don't remember the details of how she did it.
Hey thanks arlene I may just try that. I am cutting them to root anyway so I will just leave the seed pods on and see what happens.
I was pruning a frosty pink yesterday and found seed pods I didn't even know were there. Since it didn't hurt them last night I thought maybe they would make it to ripen, but guess I'm out of luck there. I had cut a limb that had a pod on it and thought I'd leave it and see what happens. Dr. Seuss and Frosty will be blooming again by tomorrow. Some others want to, just depends when the first hard one hits whether they make it or not.
Arlene, Butterfly, JPasko and DrD are taking the longest. Fastest to ripen was Whiskers. Your warmer temps probably have a lot to do with it.
