Yeah I finally had to chop the beauties down. Big freeze tonight. I had one that Gloria sent, Peach, that was so close to blooming. I took a plastic table, picnic type, and placed over it and covered with a grill cover. I hope it will be alrigth. Boy it is so hard to cut with all those buds still showing.
A dirty deed
Will keep my fingers crossed for you, are you just expecting one night of cold weather?
isn't it cold Jim?? hate this, we've had frost, but tonight would have done them in. I was going to bring more seedling cuttings in, but the cold made me be very picky:)
Sure wish I could help you. Mine are all inside, where it is warm!
It was so hard to do with all the buds. I kept telling myself it won't be long and next year I will have more.
Yeah tiG it is really cold outside. I think the Peach was the only thing that I received this year that I thought would stand a chance to bloom that hadn't. It has been skirted out for several days but just never opened. I started to dig it up and bring it inside but Bobbie would have had to move out. I have the house packed full of plants. One of my sons was visiting yesterday and came through the foyer and said all we needed was a monkey and an iguana and we would have a rain forest. It is packed. I have one Brug potted up that has skirted and it is the citronella.
You are all lucky that you've had them this long. We have been without for a month or more now. I hate the way the yard looks.
Hey the red eye hibiscus was watching me cut the brugs down. I can't believe it is still blooming. Today was probable the last day for it.
After this winter you will be an expert on finding every inch of spare space to fit in another cutting or plant. LOL
I hate cutting them with buds too. It hurts.
Jim,I don't know how cold it is by you,but with our month of rain, and nighttime temps in the 30°'s,I put mine away a long time ago.Yesterday, however,I saw a 5 foot Brug in bloom down the block from me! It is planted in the ground, but there was no sign of frost damage or anything.I never noticed this Brug this Spring,so it must be pretty new,and I must ask her what she did these last few weeks to keep it alive(green with envy here!)
