Need Advice-Brugs Wilting

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I have two brugs that are acting strangely. I've checked them over and there are no bugs and not even a spot on the leaves. However, they are wilting, from the bottom up. They have both dropped most of the lower leaves. I'm going to re-pot them today, but wondered if anyone knows what the problem might be. These are small brugs in gallon or less pots. One is an Arborea and the other is a Double Peach. Thought maybe these might be more prone to disease or other problems. They have been recently sprayed with a very mild fungicide and a natural bug spray. Anyone?

Could be root rot. Take the plant out of the pot and check the roots. They should be nice and white. If they are brown and/or mushy that is the problem. Pythium is a common fungus that attacks roots. I think Monika said to repot them in fresh dry soil and keep very dry till they start to recover. We use fungicides to control it, but it has to be specifically labeled for pythium or it won't work.

Two of mine have just finished dropping the last of their leaves....they are only a foot tall. Think I will check out their root systems today and see if they were too wet. They are starts from a couple of my seedlings that were about a week shy of opening their blooms at frost time last month. May not be worth saving, but would be nice to know why they have dropped all their leaves:)

I air layered some and when I cut them free from the Mother Plant, they wilted, lost all their leaves and buds, but are now putting out new leaves. I think their root system just wasn't developed good.

Thanks Susie,

I guess if it is a big problem I'm just going to lose them. Hopefully the roots will look good and it is maybe the spraying I did.

Brugie, that's possible. It could be the change of atmosphere too, or that they weren't rooted well enough.

Fingers crossed for you Brugie - keep us posted.

If you lose it, there's more where that came from. Spraying has a lot to do with it. Also, change to different place, probably will need time to adjust. Hope that's it.

I just repotted the Arborea. It has some short white strong roots with brown fibrous feeder roots. I washed it good and put it in a more pourous potting soil. Will just wait and see what happens. I'll do the other one after lunch. Have to wait on some soil to warm up a bit. I think that there were not enough roots on this cutting to support the tall shoot coming from it. Not ruling out a big problem yet though. Will keep both of these plants away from the others for the time being. Thanks for your help.

Brugie, hope that works for you. I lost my double peach, the cutting was fine and the next day all mushy. I guess we win some and lose some.

Will keep this in mind. Maybe they do not like change???

Me too! Hope it HAS roots.

Double Peach has good roots. I'm now thinking it might have been the spray and will just wait and see.

CC, am so glad you can boost my spirits. I get a little down when I think I might lose one of my special brugs. It could still be something strange happening, but let's just hope it was the spray. It is funny that it only happened to two brugs though.

Hope it goes well for you Brugie - I'd email you but I seem
to have lost email access - I'm helpless - can you pass it on for me please?

Just got email from you. Must be back on now.
