went to dig up, he is way out in the open. wondering what it is with this stalk. butterfly kinda does this.
Is this cork on pink floyd?
Eeeew, that gets on Harenhauser Garten too. We need Monika or Ludger or Tonny for that one.
Cala, i was praying you would say NO, of course not!!! do you think the few tips that don't have it will be okay? and do you think it is cork, i guess? i don't think the book gives an answer for cork. i should have moved this baby out of so much sun a long long time ago.
thats narley dude!
I've got Monika's book, wish I could read German. I had HG in a lot of sun too, wonder if that's what caused it? I took side shoots and tip cuttings, they don't show any signs of it.It's the original plant that has this.
I have one in the garage that has a funny looking truck. I didn't know it would be something to be watchful of though. Is "cork" a fungus or what?
i don't know, but it is still blooming very nicely.
OK, can't tell from Monika's book(no pictures of cork) and my eyes are crossing from translating the pages to English. I've learned about viruses, parasites, stem rot and fungus(the translator called it "mushroom diseases"). I sure hope Monika comes along soon. I'm thinking it's a fungus or bacterial disease.
presseils says "it is apparently a symptom of a disease that affects the thickness and the longevity of the trunks that are infected. B. suavolens and its hybrids are the most susceptible". and not a lue as to what to do? i think i'll take clean cuttings, cut it back, and see how it grows back next spring.
I was hoping Tonny would be here by now. I asked him and he said it's a disease, not fatal, but you need to start cuttings to replace the affected ones. Take tip cuttings that don't have any symptoms. Hopefully he will come along soon and may add more.
you tell that boy that i am gonna get on my broom or find that famous german get there instantly horse and beat him with brug sticks if he doesn't come around!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
forgot to say, thanks much for the info!!!!!!!
Me too - I've never even heard of cork.
Arlene, Tonny said you better stay off that broom in this cold weather!! He will be here later, he's trying to get his living room finished.
Awwww, that broom is her winter rat,she has a hoover deluxe for the summer....lol
arlene, it looks much like Stengelbrand, a very serious disease. Your plants has only less foilage left and it speaks for this disease, that only three leave pairs from the top look healthy, the rest falls off. Infected plants inclusive soil must be placed into the garbage can. Cutting tools and hands desinfected, I would even get rid of the pot.
Cala it is in my book, the pictures show it in the beginning.
My PC is working again. I have to install windows 2000 new to finally solve the problems.
oh dear, another thing to be worried about. cork?? I now have some brugs that are wilting and have some mottled leaves at the bottom. they are a cluster that I have off by themselves. I was hoping to move them into the hoop house but then thought better of it. This is getting very stressful!!!
Arlene, I am sure you shared your special pink floyd with many people, so at least you know you will get it back!! This is sure a good reason to be generous with your brugs. you never know when disaster will hit!
Would someone make me lunch? I am starving. Well anyone but Cala!
Monika, thank you so much! it is in the ground, and probably has nematode damage, is near the one i pulled up with nematodes a while back. i will put the whole thing in a garbage bag. Does stengelbrand the same thing as cork?
That is down right scarey.....
Sounds like you should be wearing the white suit they handle hazardous waste with...
Does it spread?
What I mean is are all your other babies in danger.....
http://www.msue.msu.edu/imp/modc1/52397001.html
according to this translation, is a pseudomonas bacterial infection.
this wasn't a suavolens, don't know the exact mix.
that looks like it, but mine was blooming, and putting out new side shoots everywhere. oh well......... is in a garbage bag, didn't want to contaminate the shovel so the roots are mostly still in the ground.
So you get these problems also Monika and all is not lost? I think that is what is so scary. You have visions of all your favorite brugs biting the dust and being powerless to stop it.
Do you think the problems are even more prone to develop because we all have an abnormal amount of brugs concentrated in a small area?
I know when I had my 3 brugs for years I never had a problem with any of them. This year I have found mites, mealy bugs, spotted leaves and now mottling. I find it very stressful for me. I must be a real wuss! I am dreading the dreaded virus you read about. I see it everywhere I look some days...........LOL
Since I know, what the first signs of this disease look like, I watch and check my plants all the time. I know, which ones are most endangered and keep a close eye on them.
versis, aurea, x candidas or others with less suaveolens influence have no problems at all. But those species can be infected too when cutting tools are not desinfected after used on an infected plant.
Two well known german Instituts of Phyto diseases found a Fusarium species, which were not known to infect Brugmansias. I spent a lot of money for lab checks.
Monika, this was on a candida, out in full sun all day long all summer. i put a few brugs out there in the spring, one had nematodes very bad.
arlene, sunburn looks very different. Young green branches are greyish white colored after being burned, older branches have a cream color, but the skin is not damaged.
I do not want to scare you in any way, but I would be careful and rather get rid of the plant to be sure. The branches of Pink Floyd are not healthy, thats for sure.
Try to root cuttings to see, if they will root and have a healthy growth. But keep them seperate.

What a shame Arlene. I hope the it doesn't spread any farther. It's too bad it happened to Pink Floyd :( I hope you'll be able to get a piece of him back.
Monika, i already cut it off and put it in a plastic bag in the back of the truck. i didn't dig out the roots, didn't want to contaminate my shovel. will kill with that spray stuff, round up or something.
i was just meaning that i think the plant was stressed, probably from nematodes, and probably from 10-12 hours sun all summer, that made it easier to get this disease. i almost took a cutting, but decided not to bother, thanks to my friend ms kell who will send me a cutting back!!
Arlene - I just cut my Pink Floyd back yesterday and have plenty of cuttings for you if you want them, just holler!! I left the roots in the ground.
Oh my, gonna watch HG, he's off by himself. He is covered with leaves from top to bottom, and all piecies that I've tried to root have taken, but he has weird brown stuff on the bark. Don't want it to spread, so out he went to isolation. I'll send a piece to the lab here too, just to see what they say it is.
Please dont panic anybody! This was not my intention!
Not all brown spots must be a or especially this disease. It can be might as well scars from injuries. Such brown spots dont spread.
But the branch of arlenes plant is covered with it, what makes it suspcious.

Hi, the reason, why I advised to take un-damaged cuttings was, that I thought the corcky layer to be similar to those on Dark Rosetta. It get deep "scars", that later on develop this corckyness. The cuttings from DR doesn`t show any symptoms. I thought it could be the same thing affecting Pink Floyd. :)
Monika, i just don't know. i should have taken more pics. this was a pink candida, blooming nicely and putting out pretty new leaves on the stalks. the stalk i didn't take a pic of wasn't nearly so bad. we had 2 days of rain and very hard winds which had made the branches lean over. i did see an HG last year with cork, and this is what it reminded me of.
Tonny, the article i read about this disease said you could take tip cuttings from unaffected areas, but i decided not to fool with it, i have made enough cuttings this weekend.
Don't you think he is pretty? and is this if the first pic of the day that announces to the world that you have diseased brugs? lol... i will have to pay more attention. PJ is sending me cuttings. everyone i sent cuttings to i told this was a half day sun plant, the leaves were very velveety before i planted her there. which btw, it was over 100 feet from the rest of my brugs.
Arlene, do you have an Extension Service in your county? you can take a piece in to them and they can send it off for testing. If they charge a fee, it's usually very small.
Susie, it's in the back of DH's pick up truck, if he didn't put it in the can i will get a piece out. i'm getting more and more curious. it does seem to fit stangelbrand, but not everything Monika says about it, i mean this is a pink candida, not a yellow suavolens..... UF does the ag stuff around here.
Arlene, go grab a piece of it quick!! UF has a great ag department. I'm curious and I'm going to take a piece of mine to UT.
I am curious too, arlene!
Tonny, do you destroy or just let it be?
